"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. 'Once again John Blanchard touches a nerve as he deals with the issue that confronts us all what lies beyond the grave. Through the ages, people have avoided thinking of, speaking about, or preparing for death. In Where do we go from here? John deals with the topic challengingly and clearly, yet with sensitivity and gentleness.' -- Bishop Joe Bell "Church of England in South Africa"
'John Blanchard is nothing if he is not precise in his use of words; every one is weighed and meaningful. Most of us will not read another publication on the subject of death, but even if we did, we would be hard pressed to find a better one than this. It is Bible based, thorough and honest'. -- Roger Carswell "Evangelist, Leeds, England"

pg. 11 - John Blanchard, "Where Do We Go From Here"
This review is for the booklet version. I am unclear of its relation to the Amazon product but the 10 number ISBN is identical.
I just got this short (40 pages) little booklet as a promotional copy from Evangelical Press. It is available in packs of 10 for as much as $30/pack (single pack - which is what I believe is the Amazon offering) down to $20/pack (100 packs or more) with a graduated cost in between. Pretty inexpensive and well worth the money.
Blanchard explores the despair of our modern culture and the very real symptoms of that despair in the lives of those outside the hope of Christ. He does a brief survey of the current attitudes toward death and points us toward an understanding of why those attitudes do not satisfy.
In welcome contradiction to the progressive "Emergent" Church mentality, he defines terms and speaks to his readers as if they are responsible people, able to understand and comprehend concepts, the reality of which are invisible to the physical eye. Hell is not off limits in this book nor is the necessity of grace in the face of sin.
That said, this booklet is not an academic treatise as such. It is aimed at furnishing practical explanations to someone who is asking honest questions about the basic articles and world view of the Christian faith. It is therefore suitable for both evangelism (follow up after broaching the questions) and initial discipleship (equipping).
It is ideal for any Christian to: (1) read first so as to be "on-board" with the contents, (2) carry spare copies with them at all times for those unexpected encounters where a person might be interested in information, and (3) use as a resource to augment an evangelistic bible study. It's a useful resource, well-written and cogently organized.
You can also get it at [...] at the bulk rate. I have no vested interest in this product nor is my endorsement meant to imply support for any other product that may or may not be available through that organization.
