MMMMM.... this book is so delicious! Let me start by saying how much I just love the way this story is told. I lose myself in Amy's words and I never want to come up for air! I. Can't. Get. Enough! Not only is it super hot, but the language is both lyrical and stormy. It brings to mind the flash, heat and burn of lightning striking! I swear Amy is a frickin genius! The story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster that I promise you will be wanting to jump back on again and again.
We have sexy, bad boy rocker Lyrik and sassy, in your face bartender Tamar. But things are never what they seem! So you know there is so much more going on beneath the tattooed surface of their skin. If you have ever read any of my reviews (and it is totally Ok if you haven't ;) not sure if you are missing out) you know that my favorite types of characters are flawed and real. And AL Jackson has produced two amazingly flawed, real people in this book. And she was portrayed them in a way that just gets under your skin.
Let's talk about Tamar first - she is a wonderfully complex character. She comes across tough and pulled together. But if you look closely it is all an act. She is running and she hasn't stopped yet. That is until Lyrik SEES her. And I mean SEES her and EVERYTHING she is. Her past... well you will see, but my heart is still bleeding! She has built up walls now to protect her. But through the book we get to see all of her, just as Lyrik does. And I just adore Tamar - her sass, her vulnerability, her insecurities, her hard exterior and soft interior - it all just combines to make a fabulously interesting person! And Lyrik... oh Lyrik. Lyrik just got inside me and made me swoon. He comes across so hard and for good reason! (No, I'm not telling you! You need to read it, this one caught me completely off guard!) But underneath he is a man full of such love and tenderness. The baking a cake... the patchwork teddy bears... OMG I want me a Lyrik! And to top it all off - we get to see them grow in the book. Both together and as individuals and it is just so beautiful!
OK not only is the story AMAZING, the characters complex but it is HOTTTTTTTT!!! Tamar and Lyrik have this amazing chemistry - like lightning it flashes bright and lights everything up. A bit rough, tumultuous... they have this big push/pull thing going on. Because of their pasts, pasts they hold close to their chests, they can't seem to just pull each other close. But you can see it, feel it, taste it. (No really the writing is so spectacular, descriptive.. I just don't have words - that you feel right along with them.) When they come together it is both explosive and beautiful. And when they start to admit their feelings for one another... *SIGH* You Sing My Soul HOLY SWOON WORTHY MOMENT! These words hold such impact in this book! When you get to this part... AHHHHHH you will wish someone said this to you too. Melted my heart!! So as soon as I heard 'You Sing My Soul' whispered.... I just melted. Like who has a fan to cool me off? Or better yet does someone have a sexy Lyrik for me?
I am not sure how to express how much I recommend this book, this series. And no you don't need to read the first 2 to enjoy Where Lightning Strikes. It is a stand alone! But each of these books have shot to the top of my I LOVE THESE FOREVER AND WILL RECOMMEND ALL THE TIME List!
I received a complimentary copy of Where Lightning Strikes in exchange for my honest review.

I have read all her books and they are all equally A-mazing. But ‘Where Lightning Strikes’, dear Lord this book blew me away! I'm sitting here trying to find the words to do this book justice. How someone can put SO much feeling into their writing is beyond me.
The book is a love story centred around Lyrik and Tamar-if you've read ‘A Stone in the Sea’ and ‘Drowning to Breathe’, then you will remember them. If you haven't, this can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend you read the books previously mentioned as well!!
There is so much emotion in this book (yes I know I drag on about emotion, I'm an emotional gal :-) ), I laughed, I cried, my stomach was in knots at times - I was right there with the characters, a part of their story. That's what Amy does, she sucks you into the story and you cannot escape. I thought about this book when I wasn't reading it, itching to get back to it! I most certainly got the bad mamma award for too much TV and tablet playing for my 3 munchkins!
As usual I'm not going to give the story away, as I feel it really spoils it for a reader. What I will tell you is you've got a fiery little lady, a great hunk of a man and a beautifully written story that will take you up and down and evoke feelings you don't often get from a book. Not forgetting, a good dose of steamy scenes to keep any reader satisfied ;-)
“The buzz before the strike”
I've said it before.. I don't know how she does it but she does and I honestly don't know what it is about this brilliant Author she just has this wonderful gift, her stories are never just simply written they are full of depth and so much content and always so poetic.
We know from the second book that Lyrik and Tamar had a little bit of attraction going on between them but that's all it was attraction but it was there simmering.
Where Lightening Strikes opens up with Lyrik hot on Tamar's heels, it's been a while now and Lyrik can't resist anymore but he's about to meet his match.
Just like the previous two books in this series and in fact everything from Jackson you are hooked from the very beginning but you are never quite sure of the full impact until it's too late and before you know it you are drowning in another compelling story.
Tamar and Lyrik both had pasts that held dreadful painful memories and heartache and over the last few years had been living their lives very differently.
Tamar had denied herself of any sort of relationship and Lyrik, well he'd been pretty reckless or so it seemed but there was that attraction again which is now really bubbling or should I say sizzling.!
Tamar and Lyrik's story keeps you on the edge, nothing is revealed about their pasts you can't imagine what they have been through all you can do is guess but when everything comes to light.. You are not even close and as per usual I've spent most of my time in tears but nothing new there!
It takes time we are put through the mill, Tamar and Lyrik work through their issues and eventually it all pays off, it's a really beautiful ending to a really beautiful compelling story.
I remember Austin leaving towards the end of the last book and that was a heartbreaking moment, he didn't feature at all in this book, we know how troubled he is, he's carrying so much guilt on his shoulders and already the anticipation is building ready for his story Through The Storm it's going to be another heartbreaking story I'm sure!
What I love about this series is that every book has been a big read but I think the last series was too, no scrimping on storylines here!
Thank you A.L. Jackson!
Lyrik and Tamar were yet another beautiful addition to the series. Just brilliant. This book brought on so many emotions for me! We've obviously already met both of these characters in the previous books, but what we don't see is the depth to these characters. In this book we learn EVERYTHING about them - both characters have so many layers and we really discover them as individuals and as a couple.
Honestly, I will read anything that Amy writes! I strongly suggest you read the rest of the series first, and when you get here you will enjoy the story to it's full potential.
***** 5 Beautiful Lightning Stars *****
After devouring the first two books, A Stone in the Sea (Bleeding Stars Book 1) and Drowning to Breathe (Bleeding Stars Book 2) , I really believed that the author couldn’t top the Bleeding Stars series with anything more insightful. Wrong, oh so wrong.
Where Lightning Strikes is such a meaty read, it grabs you from the get go, gobbles you up and spits you out frequently, leaving you in a chewed up mess.
Most of the main characters from the first two books also feature here and they support and deepen this beautiful and tragic account of Tamar King and Lyrik West’s efforts to survive the horrors that have torn apart their individual worlds. There are two incredible story lines running through this book, both are deep and have damaged the owners of those stories so profoundly that they almost don’t survive as the people they once were.
Tamar is a wolf in sheep’s clothing...or is she? She is such a likeable character, even when she doesn’t want you to like her you can’t help but feel her defence mechanisms slipping into place to the point where you can’t give up on her.
Lyrik West...OMG that man comes out of the pages at you his character is so well written. He is bottomless, fathomless, dark and brooding and he feels so deeply that it almost ruins his life. I loved the way Tamar picks away at his exterior to get to his iron clad heart until he can’t hold himself together any longer. He does the same to her, pulling down her carefully erected impenetrable walls brick by brick whilst building her up in a much stronger way until she finally has the strength to overcome her shackles and free herself from her past.
There are times when it is hard to read the words that A L Jackson has so beautifully written through the blur of water rimmed eyes. Some of the scenes would challenge even the most stalwart of readers who must at least have had a lump in their throat at these times.
I’m delighted to say it does resolve itself finally when all the loose ends are sewn together beautifully in this patchwork of love....read the book, you’ll see why I chose these words!
