I was a B N Toler virgin - never read a book by her before; it was the blurb that sold me on this book which I may add has been sitting on my kindle for a long while - and honestly this subject matter fascinates me. I believe in God and in life after death and in spirits so I was invested straight away - but this book is so much more than this.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - you know when you have found a certain book that captures your heart and soul when you read it in a day and can't even stand to put it down. The only time I did was when it all became too much at certain points and I went and made myself a coffee ( it was early morning or else it would have been vodka had it been evening) So emotional, so poignant and so very touching it was breaking my heart, there were tears but there was also immense joy and hope too.
Charlotte is struggling with life after the death of her brother Axel, she also finds out she has a very special gift - at first one that she is not sure she wants at all, she can see and hear dead people but only those who have unfinished business and cannot pass over to the other side without her help. Cast aside by her mother and father , Charlotte goes on a journey where life wears her down only to be "saved" by Ike McDermott who just happens to be dead, but in need of some help from Charlotte to save his brother George from a downward spiral in his life - he can't move on until he does and Charlotte is the person he needs to help him, but how will Charlotte deal with Ike and his demands. They make a deal that could change both of their life's with unknown consequences lying before them. This is that remarkable journey.
Utterly beautiful, heartwarming and in some places there are touches of humour, this book was a privilege to read, an experience I had wished I would have taken sooner. All the characters were amazing and wonderfully written and constructed to give us a story that I'll never forget or want to. I never wanted it to end but I knew it had to - I could have read this book forever and I would never have tired from it.
If there is one thing you do open your mind and read this book - it is a gift, a treasure to take with us.
"Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom before we can make our way back up"
" 'Moments come and go; quick flickers in time. Yet those moments can have the profoundest impact on our lives. Either we seize them, and wield them to our needs, or we let them go. It's the moments we let go that, I believe, remain with us strongest—because regret is something that never leaves us."
Still drawer to this earth with unsaid or unfinished business.
I just felt SO SO consumed with this story and all the possibilities that in real life this could very well exist.
I would not mind seeing and talking to a dead soul/spirit such as Ike McDermott. IKE had such a warm and witty and fun loving personality. He was such a smart charmer, his charisma was a thing of beauty that you rarely find once in a lifetime, and IKE was exzobrated in it, ... EVERY INCH OF HIM .... be still my heart!
Char is gifted with the supernatural ability to see and talk to dead people since the death of her brother. For six years char has traveled around helping the dead people with there unfinished business what ever that maybe, in which keeps their spirit body's here or "stuck in limbo" the way Char explains it". After six long hard exzosted years of talking to the dead people, Char realizes she's not living her life herself, her abilities has left her estranged from her former friends, an banished by her family, after six years of this- Char is just more than SAD, TIRED OF just EXZISTING an traveling from state to state, Char is tired of feeling alone and broke, an feeling overwhelmed by the world that finds her crazy.
Until one dark rainy cold night Charlotte is on a bridge ready to End it all, ....IKE McDermott intervenes an talks Charlotte down from the ledge by proposing....A. DEAL.
IKE helps her find a place to stay and a job. While Charlotte helps his unfinished business with his twin brother George.
This story just flows and just sinks right into your skin literally, because doesn't not want to know what happens and last but not least....."WHERE DOES ONE GO" when we die ?!?! ..........and what happens to those like IKE "stuck in limbo," ...........earth bond.... from the human desire for those WE LOVE whole heartedly like IKe feels for his grieving brother George. IKE does not want to cross over until he knows his brother is gonna be all right and find true happiness in life, before IKE can be at peace.... and "cross over" ..... "WHERE"? ... "WHERE ONE GOES"
What a SUPER LOVE story in the SUPERNATURAL.
The story May very well be fiction with fictional characters. But the realities aren't fiction.
Possibilities are plausible for those who Love whole- heartedly like IKE.
Possibilities of seeing dead people like Charlotte ? .... it is plausible, one can only theorize ..... where one goes.
I think it is very possible the true realities of this story, are in every human beings mind, at one point or another....WE JUST WANT TO KNOW. WE WANT TO KNOW THE UNKNOWN. And quite frankly the author BN Tolers story will forever be ingrained in are minds, cause all human souls want a know Where One Goes.
A MUST.......Thought provoking INTERESTING, READ!
