Chloe "Not-Abby" has spent her life trying to remain unnoticed. She wants it this way. If no one cares about her, she won't loose someone else. She is ready to hit the road as soon as she graduates. She has dreamed of the day she can get in her car and just go. Her foster parents know they can't keep her with them. The Road is all Chloe wants.

Blake Hunter is still deciding what to do with his life. He can join the military like his father or he can pursue a basketball scholarship at Duke's University.

A collision between Chloe and Blake changes their future forever.

“Sometimes the wrong path can lead us to the right road. And toward the greatest thing that will ever happen to us.”

If you have never read a book by Jay McLean, you are missing out. Her stories are powerful. I recommend keeping tissues close to you because I know she will make you feel.
Chloe and Blake's love story is all about caring for someone deeply enough to open up to them and changing your solitary life goal to making it a couple's choice. There is pain, laughter, loss and love throughout the journey. It's still a journey you don't want to miss.

“You can run, you can hide, you can choose not to see, but where the road takes you will always lead to me.”

Trust that the most unexpected person to fall into your life will actually be your life and soul. Jay McLean does not write to write, she writes to feel. She puts herself 100% all in with emotion and heart from the second the words form with in her. You cannot just read Jay McLean…you feel her from the top of your head way down to your toes. From the thoughts in your brain to the depths of your heart. She can evoke feels from places you didn't know existed and never dreamed possible.

Where the Road Takes Me was the most unexpected things I've ever read from her. I had nothing to go on except “it’s Jay McLean”… and it was better, way better than I could have thought of. I was blown away by her sheer ability to write a great story. One that I can completely lose myself in over and over and over again. One that will stick to me even after it’s been read. One that even days later, can make me quote or re-read sections because it was THAT GOOD.

The characters…oh the characters…FANTASTIC!!! I fell in love with each of them so hard. I mean Chloe… adorable, troubled and strong as hell Chloe. Melted my heart in eleventy three different ways. BLAKE HUNTER is a freak’n GOD!!! “I placed his hand against my heart so he could feel the impact this had on me. You've just completed me”…DIED!!! I mean who recovers from that??? Jay McLean had me brought down to puddles of emotional mush just from the sheer building of this relationship!

DO NOT even get me started on the friendships in this book. I mean AMAZING!!! Everyone’s characters evolved and matured in the course of a summer to the point where I couldn't imagine NOT reading them. Friendships were made and lives were changed. I was in awe of how seamless Jay made everything.

I went on this journey. Jay McLean was my fearless, fun, crazy leader. Admittedly, after the More Than Series I would probably follow this adorable Aussie writer anywhere, but that's besides the point. This journey was different. She painted my world red. (Read the book and you'll know what I mean.) And Blake and Chloe painted my world red. As did Josh, Tommy, Dean, Mary and Mrs. Hunter.

This journey began with Blake Hunter. Blake is unlike any other high school senior jock I have ever read about. He's honest. He's real and he's truth. What does that mean? Well, he's going through a major turning point. Which way should he turn? Which life direction should he follow? Does he have any idea which path would make the most sense? He doesn't. So he runs. Literally. It's his escape. An escape that would change him forever. It was interesting to me, that I fell so hard for Blake. I love a good jock just as much as the next girl, but he was different. He's loyal, he's hot (which of course helps), he's funny, he's a wordsmith, "You look extra beautiful today." ... but above all that, he's truly a genuinely KIND person. There were several times I honestly found myself thinking "Don't take the high road, Blake!" But he's a good guy. He is better than that. For that, he's one of the most perfect boys to read about - he's a guy I would want to be my sons' friend - and that, my friends, says it all.

Chloe Thompson, sweet Chloe. She's such a broken and scared soul. She's been through enough junk in her life at a young age that she SHOULD be jaded. If she wasn't, I would think there was something missing in her make up. I didn't fall in love with her immediately. I felt for her, I wanted to wrap her in a hug but I didn't love her.

I've never ever experienced a book like this, and that's extremely hard to say for me because I read so much. For a topic that is so near and dear to my heart I can't even express the emotions and the memories this book brought up. My heart ached for Chloe but that ache made me want to root for her so much more. And my dearest, most dedicated Blake! He was what a girl in Chloe's situation should dream for. I'm so obsessed with this story, I could go on and on about it but in reality you just have to READ it and EXPERIENCE it for yourself to understand. I've always been a fan of Jay McLean form her very first book and they've all be so amazing but I swear, I'm seeing nothing but Red Letter Days for her career in this writing world. She's an inspiration to me and Where The Road Takes Me is forever imprinted onto my heart and soul.
