In Vera Harris's Where Shall We Go?, eight-year-old Josie is given the task of deciding where her family will go for their family vacation. Should they go to Disney world and see Cinderella's castle? Should they go to the zoo to see the animals? Or should they go to the state fair and ride on a Ferris wheel? Josie is having a tough time deciding; perhaps, though,a compromise is the solution she's looking for.
In some ways, despite being a short children's book, Where Shall We Go? feels a bit too short. Josie reaches a decision a bit too quickly after all her jumping back and forth; developing her decision-making process a bit more would be helpful for young readers learning how to make their own decisions. Also, much of the dialogue felt a bit wooden and unnatural - very unlike how a child and her mother would speak to each other.
Despite this, Where Shall We Go? is a delightful little book.Vera Harris is an imaginative writer with a great sense of what makes a good children's book. Presenting Josie's solution as a compromise to visit all three places eventually is a nice way to conclude it, also; it will serve to teach its readers about patience, logic, and the art of compromising. Where Shall We Go? is a charming book, full of a child's excitement at the prospect of going some where wonderful; it is sure to delight the young readers that will grace its pages.

From the Author
I enjoyed writiing "Where Shall We Go" from the moment the idea came to me. This book spotlights a little girl who has the responsiblity of choosing where her family will take their family vacation. In this book, children will learn ways to make decisions, as well as to be entertained. My goal is to provide entertaining, and engaging books for kids up to the age of twelve (12).

In Vera Harris' Where Shall We Go? Eight-year-old Josie needs to choose where her family will go for their summer vacations and she is indecisive. She is confused and yet to decide if it would be a good idea for them to go to Disney world and see Cinderella's large, pink, candy-trimmed castle? Or would it be a great idea to go to the zoo to see all kind of animals such as monkey, birds, and elephants? Or on the other hand, would it be more fun to go to the state fair and ride on the fastest, scariest Ferris wheel? Josie is having an extreme time choosing; however, she has to compromise in her choices to come to a conclusion.
Where Shall We Go? is a charming story with delightful illustrations that give a good pace and movement to the story. Pictures cover all the necessary details about Josie’s imaginary trip to all the three places she shortlisted for her family vacation and helps kids explore their imagination. It is a Perfect read for parents, teachers and any adult encouraging children to read and learn that they need to make decisions in life, a valuable lesson indeed.
I also LOVE the fact that Vera’s book features a black young female as the main character of her book. As we all know finding good, quality children’s books featuring people of color is hard and the struggle is real so I think having Where Shall We Go? in your kid’s library will expertly diversify their book collection and expose them to a wide range of people, experiences, and cultures.
I think Vera's book will allow small children to understand and explore the importance of decision making through a simple and sweet story that demonstrates identifying the decision to be made, thinking of all the options, evaluating the options and choosing the best one. My one complaint, the story is too short, I didn't want it to end! "Where Shall We Go?" it is very well written and wonderfully illustrated and will become a favorite bedtime story - with a lesson. We cannot wait to read the next book from Vera.
