"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. The ending was incredibly weak. The conclusion of the suspense portion brings to the story to a head with a bit of anticipation and then afterwards, it's like a balloon completely deflated because the epilogue was not sufficient to explain out the last chapter before, it came off as if it were a passing circumstance instead of a tragic and life changing event. After all the build up between Jack and Lu's relationship, it ends on a rather flat and anticlimactic note and there's just so many other ways that the writing could've supported the story better so the characters had a more satisfying ending. And I don't mean an ending that I would've liked better or a different ending, because ultimately it was fine, but seemed rather abrupt and rushed. I mean an ending that was more elaborated to make it worthy for what the characters went through and to understand how the experience shaped them. Instead, I was left scratching my head wondering what was the relevance of that and what it did to deliver some kind of profound life message, because I completely missed the memo and the necessity of why Lu and Jack had to go through that.
Have you ever read a book that you were so engrossed in that you couldn’t put it down for the life of you? (Of course you have)
Have you ever read a book that’s so over the top enthralling just as much as it is enticing? (I would hope you have)
But a better question?
Have you ever read a DEBUT novel that has all of those elements and more?
Because if you haven’t, you need this book in your life. H***, if you HAVE, you STILL need this book in your life.
I’ll never be able to get over the fact that this is the author’s first written book. The writing style was phenomenal, the characters were just PERFECT, but the story...
The story is where it’s at with this one!
Goodness, this is the book that has you on your toes 100% of the time. It makes you FEEL, it makes you SHAKE, it makes you ANXIOUS page after page, and it also give you LIFE!
Where You Can Find Me leaves you guessing. This romantic suspense is just that in every sense of the genre. Even if you were to think you’ve figured everything out, it still leaves you guessing while still pulling you in. That is a 100% guarantee.
This book is steamy, comical, swoon worthy, and overall, this book is riveting to say the absolute least.
READ. THIS. BOOK!
Jack was ex-military who worked as a security and investigation specialist. When a series of bodies showed up with signs of multiple trauma and strangulation Jack teamed up with Grayson to help track the killer. Jack was unofficially working the case with Grayson, his friend to investigate the killings.
The author began the story with reports of bodies being found tortured and mutilated in Cincinnati. Right from the start the story prepared the reader for a dark suspenseful thriller. Simultaneously Luella was dealing with her fears of loss and coped by making reckless choices that caused her brother, Jameson to become worried and over protective. Her friend Evie, on the other hand, wanted to distract her with alcohol and sex.
Luella struggled with her fear of loss. She lost her parents and someone close to her so when she met Jack she reacted impulsively with sex. Luella used sex as a means of coping with her fears. As Jack and Luella built a solid relationship Luella's fears of losing Jack caused her to have panic attacks. Jacks line of work put his life in danger causing Luella to panic.
The story was a romantic suspense that was sexually driven. Some scenes were extremely sexually graphic. Warning this book had a rape scene that might cause minor triggers.
This was a standalone story. This was Fiona Cole's debut book. It was highly addictive.
