Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Just under 8 inches square, this volume is bigger than most board books. That larger size gives more scope for the sturdy, die-cut flaps that make every double-page spread an interactive experience for toddlers and even babies who are able to grab them. The book’s title becomes a refrain for the short, rhyming text, encouraging kids to lift the flap and discover what’s hidden, beginning with “In this chair? / It’s a teddy bear! / But where’s my sweetie pie?” Bold and colorful, the simple forms that make up the digital illustrations show up clearly against the white backgrounds. Best of all, the image revealed by lifting the final flap is sure to bring a smile to both child and adult reader. As rewarding as a good game of peekaboo, this playful picture book will appeal to the same audience in the same way. Preschool-Grade 1. --Carolyn Phelan

I bought several books for the toddlers at my preschool for Valentine's Day and this is by far, their favorite. They love when they get to the last page and see themselves in the mirror. All day, they ask for "Sweetie Pie."

Someone bought us this book when our daughter was born. It was by far her favorite book. We have read it so much that the "hiding" tabs are all peeling or tearing off of the book. Which is to be expected. The mirror at the end is great. I find the mirror to be a lot better than the other "mirror" books we have in terms of being able to see yourself without being all distorted. Love this book so much we have bought it for other new babies. Highly recommend.

I wasn't expecting much from other reviews I read but I was pleasantly surprised! This is a super cute book I bought for my sons first valentines day! He loves the characters but most of all the mirror on the last page! I wanted an interacting flip windows book and was happy with the book!

We bought two copies of this book for Valentine's Day gifts. One book for each of our nephews (ages 13 and 8 months). They both love it! The mirror on the last page is their favorite. We highly recommend this book.

My child LOVES this book. Saw it at the library first & then got it for Valentines Day. We look at it together b/c though it is a board book, it has those tempting lift-the-flap pages (which is the point: "is my sweetie pie behind here?"), so we enjoy it together so it will stay in tact. Fun mirror for you and baby to "discover" sweetie pie at the end. Highly recommend.

Discovered this when it was read at the local public library during toddler story time. It's one of her favorites - has easy rhymes that she's quickly memorized, and flip designs on each page. <SPOILER ALERT> The last page goes "is it in this pocket? is it in this locket? yes, there's my sweetie pie!" which is a paper mirror, and she loves seeing herself in it. Took it out of the library 3 times before I realized I should buy this book.

"Where's My Sweetie Pie" is an excellent book for very young children. It's low-key, reinforces the positive image a child as of him/herself, and in my experience, appealed to the children I gave it to. The words are simple yet imaginative. The book seems to be just the right length - holding attention but not being so long as to lose attention. One feature that was appreciated was the rhyming of the words at the ends of sentences. The children really liked that. The "mirror" at the end was also a big hit with the very youngest set. My grandchildren both loved it and I plan to buy it again as occasions warrant.

This is a simple cute toddler book. My 3 year old son and 2 year old daughter both like it and ask for me to read it over and over. They thought it was pretty funny at the end when they were the actual "sweetie pie" we were looking for throughout the book.
