Where's MY Book? A Guide for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Youth, Their Parents, & Everyone Else Paperback – Unabridged, November 3, 2015
Linda Gromko, MD is a Board Certified Family Physician who has worked with the transgender community for nearly eighteen years. She explains the basics of gender identity, sexual orientation, puberty, puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and gender affirming surgeries. She shares years of her patients’ wisdom and practical information on getting through every day in the best way possible—from coming out to parents, to school issues, to coping with depression, to love and sex. Why is this book important? We know that transgender kids and their families need specialized information. Alarmingly, the suicide attempt rate among trans youth is close to half! This book is intended to give gender non-conforming kids some of the information they need to grow to be happy, productive, loving and loved. It’s intended to provide the information we need as parents, educators, and health care providers to do better with and for our kids. “Honest, accurate, sensitive, and straightforward, Dr. Gromko’s advice and explanations are a breath of fresh air. ANYONE curious about this topic can benefit from her wisdom and clarity.

This book is wonderful, very informative and reads smoothly. I had to return the copy I had to my ex and just purchased this as my personal copy. Unfortunately, whoever is in charge of handling the book to send out put a super sticky product sticker right on the middle of the front cover and ruined it. I removed most of the sticker but there’s a sticky residue and damage to the cover itself. Would be great if Linda could say something to these people. Not happy about!

I recommend this for all of my transgender patients and their families. It covers everything, and Dr Gromko’s sensitivity and experience show in her thoughtful and well written insights. I’ve used this with patients as young as 12!

It is never too late to be yourself and Dr Linda Gromko has put information for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals into an easily readable format with references to pursue further as needed. I wish I had had a guide like this when I transitioned! Chapter headings and full indexing make this a book useful to readers of all ages and gender identities. Rated R for realistic, the book presents numerous vignettes from actual patients who tell it like it is, such as how to survive if you are tossed out of your home by your parents; or how to navigate changing your name. Groundbreaking in scope, this book should be required reading for all healthcare givers; and parents of gender questioning youth will find it particularly helpful.

I bought this book to give to my teen. When it arrived, I decided to read it first. I'm glad I did. It answered a lot of questions *I* had about practical matters (blockers, hormones, legal document changes) and it gave me insight into the physical and emotional journey that my kid is navigating. The author did an excellent job of packing a substantial amount of information into a very readable book.

This evidence based book is written with much clarity and kindness. You feel like the author, a family practice physician is talking directly to you. I find it very useful as a health care provider to learn more about the subject. I think teachers would get a lot out of this book--anyone who cares about transgender kids. It is also wonderful for its intended audience--parents and transgender youth. I can't recommend this book enough. I don't think that there is anything out there like it.
