Winston Churchill was born on 30 November1874. He was first elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom in 1900. He ran for various seats in the House of Commons, winning most of the time but loosing in 1922 and 1924. Churchill opposed the minimum wage and home rule for India. He resisted the 1936 abdication of King Edward VIII, because the king wanted to be married to a commoner. For these and other reasons Churchill was out of office during the 1930s, making many speeches but never being elected. Churchill was a powerful writer starting from his first book in 1898 “The Story of the Malakand Field Force: An Episode of Frontier War”. It was his first published work of non-fiction. Winston Churchill's son, Randolph S. Churchill, also served in the House of Commons. Randolph Spencer-Churchill was born 28 May 1911. He was a journalist and a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1940 to 45. He was the son of Winston Churchill and his wife Clementine. He wrote the first two volumes of the official life of his father, complemented by an extensive archive of materials. His first wife (1939–46) was Pamela Digby and their son, also named Winston Churchill (10 October 1940 – 2 March 2010) , followed his father into Parliament. Randolph Churchill died on 6 June 1968. His bereaved former wife then married everal other men and finally W. Averell Harriman who had been US Ambassador to the Soviet Union and then Britian during World War II. She became a US Citizen in 1971. Now she was called Pamela Harriman and she became a prominent socialite, holding parties and events in her Arlington Virginia home. She became the power broker and king maker. Pamela Harriman was credited with securing the Dempctatic Party nomination for Bill Clinton as President of the United States and then with getting him elected as President, although Hillary helped a little bit too. In 1980, the National Women's Democratic Club named Pamela Harriman "Woman of the Year". U.S. President Bill Clinton appointed her Ambassador to France in 1993. She died on 5 February 1997. Although Winston Spencer Churchill was elected to the House of Commons, he was not a commoner. He like almost every person holding high office in England could trace his ancestory back to William the Conqueror who conquered England in 1066. Lady Diana Spencer who married Prince Charles was a relative of Winston Churchill. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill died on 24 January 1965.
