This bulb burns out fast. Unfortunately, for some reason, whirlpool decided to mount the bulb socket so that the easy-to-find but longer 40 watt appliance bulb doesn't fit. You can either keep buying only this bulb, or simply change the angle of the socket and use the longer bulbs.

Simply unscrew about 8 or so screws on the bottom of your microwave and you'll be able to access the light socket. It's held in by one screw. Remove this screw which will allow you to move the socket from being perpendicular to the light slot to simply sitting in the light slot in a parallel fashion. The wires are long enough that there is plenty of length to relocate the socket. The socket won't be mounted into anything but will just sit on the glass access panel that lets the light shine on the stove. This will give you easy access to replace the bulb and also allow you to buy the longer bulbs that are easy to find in any store.

As the other reviewers have pointed out, this bulb will last you about a month, plus or minus. However, there is a LED bulb that Amazon carries which is a drop in replacement for this bulb (no modification to the microwave needed)! The only downside is that the low mode on the microwave will cause the light to flicker, but this is a small price to pay for a cool, energy efficient bulb that doesn't constantly burn out!

This light fit my microwave and lit up exactly like it's supposed to. Screwing it into the socket was so easy that I didn't even need instructions. It's like I done it a thousand times before already. Once it was lit, I could see the stove underneath my microwave. Absolutely amazing.

Recommended for anyone with the appropriate microwave who wishes to see underneath it.

The bulb is a special type and difficult to find in stores. Home Depot and Walmart did not carry this. A good place to look would be the local hardware or appliance store. But even then, it is likely a special order.

The bulb does not last long if you plan on keeping it on for several hours a day. Plan to buy a few and store them for the future.

The item is what I was looking for, I bought 3 bulbs so I would not have to keep shopping for it, however I never thought I would be charged for three separate shipping items all in one bag.

This bulb is complete garbage. It burned out after just 10 months of infrequent usage. What's worse is there is a known issue that relates to the design of the microwave and/or the bulb. The problem is the bulb gets too hot and the bulb separates from the base resulting in premature bulb failure. This is the second bulb where bulb and base have completely separated. Either the microwave has inadequate heat shielding so the bulb is damaged from heat rising from the cooktop or the bulb isn't designed robustly enough to survive in what's known to be a high heat application. Either way, it's unacceptable and Whirlpool should do something to resolve the issue.

Skip it and buy an LED bulb from anybody but Whirlpool.

But seriously, this is the second Whirlpool product I own to recently prove itself to be junk. Just before the problem with the light bulb our Whirlpool Duet dryer died. It was flashing the dreaded F01 error that all Whirlpool Duet owners know (or eventually will come to know). It means there's a problem with the main control board. Online you can find countless stories from Whirlpool customers tell how these boards fail in exactly the same spot time and time again. And yet...no recall by Whirlpool. Thing is, these boards run about $150 to $200 which is 25% to 40% of the cost of buying a whole new dryer!

Until we stop feeding the beast these gigantic corporations will continue to focus on short-term profits instead of long-term durability. In other words, they sell us trash because we're buying it. Stop the cycle.

I opened the panel under the microwave hood, screwed in this new light bulb, tested the light on both brightness levels. The bulb came on and worked perfectly. What more can you ask for in a light bulb?

My husband and I tend to frequently use the convenient light that is on the underside of our Whirlpool, built-in, microwave oven. Because of that fact, it occurred to me that, probably sooner rather than later, the lightbulb would burn out and we would be left scrambling to find a replacement. I decided to get one in advance, and it was amazingly time-consuming scanning the user manual that came with the microwave to figure out what kind of bulb to get. From there, our buying journey took us to the Whirlpool website. We discovered the manufacturer is charging a great deal for this bulb as well as a very high amount for shipping. For that reason, once I knew the product number, I decided to try and find the same bulb here on Amazon with free shipping, which is how I discovered this particular bulb, which is definitely the real deal and not a knockoff.

However, even though this vendor is charging less than Whirlpool and there is no shipping fee, the cost of this tiny bulb is still very high. Rather than continuing down this path over time, I am planning to rig up another alternative. I am going to use a self-stick, motion-sensitive, battery-operated light like this LED light. It would be much less expensive than this Whirlpool replacement bulb over time, and it would also solve the problem of forgetting to turn off the microwave's light when leaving the kitchen (which definitely hastens the eventual burnout of the bulb).
