“Peppered with tales from her own Nashville, Tenn., upbringing, Reese Witherspoon’s first book features mouthwatering recipes, tried-and-true style tips, and entertaining expertise. Come for the best advice she received from Dolly Parton, and stay for her hot-roller hair tutorial, y’all.” ― InStyle
“You may not have known you needed a charming lifestyle guide from Reese Witherspoon, but, trust us on this one, you do. Out this month, Whiskey in a Teacup is part etiquette primer, part cookbook, and part hot-roller how-to, all told in the actress/producer’s sharp, exuberant voice.” ― Marie Claire
In Whiskey in a Teacup, Reese shares deeply personal stories about her life in the South and offers up her best advice on entertaining and life in general (yes, there's even a detailed description on how to hot roller your hair, Reese Witherspoon style!). “OK, so you can’t party with Reese Witherspoon, but you can party like Reese Witherspoon—thanks to this part memoir, part guide to southern living from Elle Woods herself. The gorgeously shot book features tips on entertaining, as well as recipes, beauty hacks, and totally random but necessary lessons like how to catch a frog with your bare hands.” ― Cosmopolitan

“It is hard not to respond to actor-producer-writer-entrepreneur Witherspoon’s southern cooking and lifestyle guide, presented with warmth and no small amount of wit. Many features attract, such as sidebars on everything from valuable tips for hosting to the specifics of hot-rolling hair. Nearly 50 recipes and 8-plus menus will suit almost any celebration, gathering, and occasion… Connecting it all is Witherspoon's very hospitable narrative, sharing stories of growing up, family, and traditions that many will relate to.”

I was reading through trying to be a good sport about the fact that RW calls her Grandmother Dorothea (is that a southern thing?) Then four or five pages about the importance of Sweet Tea with lots of ice. (really?) and then recipes for BBQ Ribs (sooo healthy) But what broke the camels back? Mud Pie Trifle with COOL WHIP and INSTANT PUDDING !!! That is not a recipe anyone Northerner Southerner or any person of value can offer with Pride. GAG ME :(
OK - Pros: women should dress in pretty dresses with pretty lipstick and hair. MEN should look their best as well, no? And summer nights on a porch swing with friends is always a win. But did we really need to make RW a lot richer to know that? I am returning mine....quicker than you can say: dagnabbit Reese, cool whip just sucks. Get some whipping cream and beat it.
All those touched up pictures of her are just laughable.
There are lots of fun additions, like party playlists, sidebars including a Southern "pronunciation key" (haha!) and even little notes in the recipes that I (an avid cookbook reader) hadn't heard of before: like an ingenious trick to make perfect biscuits. Who knew?!
If you love Reese's films, Southern food, a good laugh, beautiful photography, and a to-die-for bright pink spine on your coffee table, then this book is most certainly for you!
This book is a lifestyle guide wrapped in a cozy blanket. You’ll get her awesome tried and true tips and tricks, mouth watering recipes, a side of wit, all presented with the warmth of southern charm.
There’s also my favorite chapter, ‘The Perfect Bookclub’ paired with a bookclub menu.. I mean, just that chapter alone: Sold!
Its safe to say that delicious fried chicken, a monogrammed scrapbook and hot rollers are in my near future!
After reading this book you'll want to cuddle up and watch steel magnolias with some warm biscuits and a big glass of iced sweet tea. I hope Reese does a novel next, I bet it would be great.
