There are so many good stories that I want to highlight but I would not give them the justice it deserves, so all I want to say today is to please purchase this book. I am so glad God creates different types of people, with different types of stories because it brings us all closer together.
Scherry Cooley and Don Dible, Co-authors of THE CHRONICLES OF CHRISTIAN MUSIC
Included in this collection are stories that will make you laugh, will bring tears to your eyes, and will even cause you to shout an "Amen!" or two. Stories of victory through the darkest night abound, bringing the reader closer to the source of victory.
Many noted writers are included in this compilation, as well as many first-timers. The quality of the writing is exceptional, and the selection of stories causes the entire volume to flow together as a single unit.
"Whispering in God's Ear" is a must-read for the seeker, for those in the desert times, and for those who are ministering in any capacity. Child-like faith is the theme, and readers will see themselves in at least one of the stories, and most likely in many.
Children readily trust what they are told. Adults tell them God hears every prayer no matter how small. As grown-ups, do we still believe that? Perhaps we have sophisticated and complicated our prayers to the point of missing the joy and confidence illustrated by the children sited in these stories. The accounts range from very serious to highly amusing and funny. Children's prayers usually sound too cute and innocent to be taken seriously. But, as they perceive a need, children are apt to pray right at the moment with a specific, bold requests. Kids aren't surprised by God's actions-they expected His response.
After I read the first chapter, I was struck by the elements of prayer I had lost. Each short story was so precious, I was compelled to read every one and wanted more. Some of the stories are written by well-known evangelists and authors but many are written by parents or others who have witnessed the immediate answer from simple prayers of a child. No less respect intended for the seasoned writers, but the stories are equally well-written with the reiteration to take everything, even the smallest, seemingly trivial request, to God. A big God has big ears.
Wayne Holmes created a delightful book and I hope to see another volume of the same compiled by him.
There are stories in here that will make you laugh, cry, and tingle, as you rediscover yours or your child's first prayers. This would make a great gift for teachers, especially Sunday School teachers, but also for boomer-aged grandparents who now have the time to rediscover the joys they missed with their own children. Of course, parents of any age will connect with these stories. This book is comfort food at it's best--it will fill you up when you're hungry or you can slowly savor the taste.
"Whispering in God's Ear" delivers an added bonus: every author, famous or not, weaves captivating stories. Through each of the eleven parts of this book, Mr. Holmes ingeniously builds on God's basic spiritual truths. All of us, as children of God, need these reminders every now and then.
I recommend this book this to all, especially to those who need a lift.
