About the author

Thomas Nye, author of the beloved Amish Horses Series, writes Christian romance novels with a historical flare and a touch of humor.
During grade school, Thomas developed an interest in history by reading anything he could find about horses and early American history. As a teenager, he moved to an area with a large Amish population, and it was as if he had fallen into his favorite book. His love of farm life, history, and horses all came together in real-life experiences with his Amish friends, who also happen to share his Christian faith. Thomas purchased draft horses from Amish farmers in his neighborhood and set out to learn the art of working with horses in harness. After years of buying, selling, and trading workhorses with Amish farmers in his community, Thomas had many wonderful memories of those experiences. The Amish Horses Book Series is a set of novels based on those adventures. Under the Heavens (Book I) was published in December 2013. He followed with Catbird Singing (Book II) 2015, English River (Book III) 2016; his other novels include Samson and Amish Delilah 2019, and Remain True: Amana 2023.
Thomas also has two published novellas, Whispering to Horses 2015 and Amish Park 2017. He has contributed to numerous anthology books as well. His blog, amishhorses.blogspot.com has attracted worldwide attention as a source of information about Amish life and also serves as his website to keep readers informed about his current works. The blog highlights draft horses and a glimpse of Thomas' experiences on the edge of an Amish community.
Thomas and his wife, Shari, live in Eastern Iowa on an acreage her grandparents purchased in 1918. They have 5 grown children and 9 grandchildren.

Matt has inherited a house that he is not pleased with at all. He can't stand the smell from the farmland next door. It is an Amish family that works the land and for some reason that irritates him. His character is angry at the world it seems. His plan is to sell the house as quick as he can and get far away from the Amish family and country living. Matt is not someone I would enjoy being around with his horrible attitude . Will something happen to change his mind about moving? Will his heart soften towards the Amish family?
Eli is Matt's neighbor and really works hard everyday. Matt takes notice of this young man and his work ethic. Matt realizes that Eli could make his yard beautiful and attract buyers . Eli is hired to landscape Matt's yard and is eager to start . I loved the interaction between Matt and Eli. As their friendship developed, Matt seemed to not be as angry. The story is beautifully written and at the beginning of the book the author gives us a little history of the two houses. Long ago Matt's grandfather was friends with the Amish family that lived in the house Eli and his family now live in. They decided to put in a gate so it would be easy to get to each other if there was ever a need.
"Good fences make good neighbors, but a gate opens the way for help in time of need." Oh how I loved that sentence. How many of us have blocked gates so we wouldn't be bothered by other? Did we miss opportunities that God had for us?
The story has so many messages throughout that I hated to see it end. Memories are wonderful to have when they remind you of a happy time and the story touched on that with such grace. There are a few surprises in the story that really blends well with the theme of the book. I hope you get a chance to read this short book and feel the warmth of a story that brings hope, contentment and peace.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit for an honest review.
I was very surprised by this story of life, love, friendship. How the stories of the past have a way of interacting with our lives daily if we would just stop and listen. Thomas has a way of bringing you into the story by making you remember your own life growing up! To help a neighbor just because you were taught to and find a reward and Blessing that comes from it. To change one self, thinking that it is better this way to find that in the long run you were right where you needed to be. I found myself throughout the story saying many times that I had always wanted to learn from the Amish and now wish I could. Thank you Thomas for such insight and memoires.I would recommend this book to anyone who would Luke to remember life is how you decide to help, love and work with each other.
Matt is a young adult man who is trying to fix up his Grandfather's old farm house and yard so he can sell it and move to the big city so he can be closer to work and his lifestyle. Next door to him is an Amish community, starting with a family of young children and a teenage boy. This boy is observed by Matt has to always be working, working really hard with a pair of beautiful large horses and funny looking equipment. The boy wonders why Matt's family sold off their farm land; while Matt wonders why this youth uses old fashioned contraptions for his yard work instead of new technology like tractors and such.
Matt's family is very much on the path of life that follows the famous saying "Keeping up with the Jones". But as the story flows, you can see how open Matt's heart really is, and how a young boy who knows how to whisper to horses, use old equipment, and work hard can bring a light and happiness to a busy city guy.
I have to admit it's hard to write this review, because there are so many great lessons, but I don't want to put spoilers in my review. Let me just say, this book is worth reading regardless of your age. It's perfect for teachers to use as they teach their students History, cultures, and economics. This is a great fast read for adults who want to ponder deep life questions Matt asks and discovers through his relationship with the boy and his Amish neighbors. My nugget of suggestions is to really think about the lesson of :"Whispering to Horses" and how that can help you in your life.
To comply with the Federal Trade Commission's regulations, I must mention as part of every review because of BookCrash, that the publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of the book, through BookCrash, in exchange for an honest non biased review.
