The novel begins with Chuck Veal searching for his missing brother Matt. His brother has disappeared from his lumber business located in rural Georgia. Chuck teams up with a co-worker Gail. The trail leads them to a small Georgia town. The town becomes the center of political push and pull as Chuck confronts the powers to be who manipulate the information pertaining to his brother's disappearance. As politics closes the doors on their search, Gail's psychic ability reinvigorates the investigation.
Among the many strengths of this well written story I especially appreciate two strong points the author's style. The first is the realistic picture of the oligarchic power of families entrenched for generations who are in control of life in small town America. Secondly, the author does an exceptional job in characterization and in creating the conventional dialogue of the rural South.
While being an easy read, it is engaging and captures the reader's imagination. The suspense builds until the denouement. I am absolutely hooked. It was refreshing to discover this author and a new genre to explore. I recommend this book for readers who like mysteries and stories of the paranormal. Furthermore, I encourage all readers to venture beyond their literary comfort zone and try this book.
It is well written and very enjoyable but you must overlook the editing because it really is the only thing that lets the book down. That didn't bother me too much though as I was so engaged in the story.
I look forward to seeing where this series goes from here.
I believe in giving Authors a chance and I met Charles on twitter and so glad I did but glad to have read his entertaining book.
