This story kept me turning the pages. There are a couple of people in this story who do not want Tess to restore the mansion. She had to battle many obstacles in accomplishing her goal in restoring the mansion. She finds herself growing closer to Brian but she has suffered a bad relationship in the past and besides she and Brian do not agree on matters of the Lord.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a free download. I went on Amazon looking for other works by her but this must be her first. This book was just released April 2016 of this year. I hope the author writes more stories that take place in Louisiana. I would not mind re-visiting these characters in a se
Overall, I thought this was a well-written book, and I found few mistakes. It would have been better to me if I’d also gotten some of the story from Brian’s point-of-view, but it was told totally from Tessa’s. I didn’t like the fact that Brian came across as so secretive, because he had no reason for being this way, and it made him harder to like. I expected the antagonists to do more to get rid of Tessa than they did. I wish there’d been less descriptions and slow-moments in the plot and more time with Brian and Tessa together, but the author tended to just tell about the fact they were getting to know each other instead of showing it. However, I still found the book to be hard to put down. In the end, I gave 4.5 stars, which rounded up to a 5.
The plot would appeal to anyone who has an interest in antiques or other collectibles. The search to find that rare, illusive treasure takes the characters on a journey that reveals human frailties of deceit and betrayal, complicated by misunderstanding and missed opportunities. The book develops themes of loss, hope, renewal and restoration.
The book would also appeal to those who have a love of New Orleans, through references to landmarks and cuisine.
The author drops subtle hints early on that make you wonder how they might be significant or play out.
The pace accelerates in the final chapter, concluding many situations. An epilogue further resolves questions. However, the reader is left to ask, "what about...?", with a desire for the book to continue.
Because of such descriptive characters, places, and situations, the novel would make a great movie adaptation. One can picture the events and characters as they would be portrayed on the screen.
