So, I took the plunge. This book was recommended to me by a fellow blogger. I was told don't read the blurb or reviews...just go in blind. Well me being the book lover I am took the challenge (as I would say) and one-clicked. I went in 100% blind based solely off someone's recommendation and I'll be damned if this book didn't blow my mind and show me that love can really conquer all. I just need to bow down to K. Webster now for writing such a kick@ss book. It deserves so much more than 5 stars.
There is so much that I want to say but can't really because it will spoil the book for you. Take a leap of faith and one-click just go in blind - you can't go wrong. The book will take you on an emotional ride filled with sadness, hate, angst, love and more. Once you start you won't want to put the book down.
My heart broke for everyone in this book. However, at the end of the day it comes down to love...just love.
What an amazing story K Webster. Thank you so much for sharing it. This was my first book of yours and will definitely not be my last.
** Review By Within The Pages Book Blog **
I'm glad I did. How I felt I was being pulled in all different directions over the course of this story, and there were a couple of events that made me raise my eyebrows. Those that read it know what I'm talking about. But then, a little past the halfway point, the story takes a sharp turn in another direction, and suddenly, everything falls into place. So to those who are doubtful about continuing past the 50% mark, I highly recommend that you do. The supporting characters are all interesting in their own way, and even more so when you find out who they really are.
To top it all off, this is truly a story of unconditional love between our FMC and MMC. How many of us wish we could find a partner like that! The FMC has gone through a lot, and there are flashbacks that depict the horrors she underwent in her childhood. It's easy to feel sad for her, and understand why she's so disturbed. But, there is a satisfying ending, to boot, and I smiled when I read the last sentence. Not totally biased but I did like that the male love interest was Asian (or half-Asian).
Lovely prose that keeps you interested. The book is told in first person, from the POV of the MMC, FMC, and one of the supporting characters, later on.
Four stars because some of the events were a little hard to believe and unrealistic. The MMC was a little too perfect, almost to the point where he didn't seem human. A lot of supporting characters but many of them were not well-developed at all.
The love scenes are well done and sexy. There is a scene or two of child abuse and rape, so just be aware of this going on.
Other than that, I enjoyed this read, very much, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, dark, twisted, and ultimately hopeful love story.
At first, I thought I had this story completely figured out. It was a good read, but nothing I hadn't seen before. Then BAM. Webster pulls the blinds open and and leaves you in a temporary shock.
If there's two things I can ask of a future reader, they are: 1) quit looking for more info and just go in with as little knowledge as possible. It's so going to be worth it. 2) Don't give up on this book without finishing it. Keep reading until you get to the end! Again, this is a once in a lifetime read that will stick in your brain forever.
