The author answered all those questions and more throughout this book, as I was reeled deeper into the lives and complex relationships of the characters as family, friends, enemies, workmates and loves. At times I was literally laughing out loud, other times sobbing, sometimes forgetting they were not friends I could reach out and help, but always throughout the entirety of this book I was engaged and eager to keep reading to the end.
Whilst this book is a complete work and tied everything up, the teaser at the end has me wanting book 3 of the series to be out already so I can go on the next roller coaster adventure in this vivid world the author has created where the fantastical is totally believable.
This is the second installment of this series. Zoe is yet again on another hunt for a killer on a new case. Here is the kicker, the killer is killing babies, or rather using them for another purpose. Things get personal when Zoe's niece goes missing. Tapping into her new Were-form powers she is able find out more about where she is.
As if she needed more going on in her life, Zoe has managaed to grab two boyfriends, but can she keep them? Also there this man that keeps invading her dreams, can she trust him? Is he the one behind the kidnapping of her niece?
She is also reconnecting with her family in this book also, which is great, do I sense a family trait in this book. CL Roberts-Huth will keep us guessing. This book and this series so far, has been a thriller from front to finish, so do not miss out on these great reads!
She will burn a lot of bridges during this book to find her niece and the rest of the babies that were taken from their parents. Can Zoe keep her cool, can she rebuild those bridges? What about the new cold bloods running around town? How do they factor in?
Find out in this second installment. Which by the way we will waiting patiently for the third installment to find out what happens next.
The second book in the Zoe Delante series of paranormal thrillers is even more of a roller-coaster ride than the first one. There are new villains - the mythical Naga - kidnapping small kids, and Esther, Zoe's little niece, is one of those kids. So this time it's personal for Zoe...
The storyline is great, fast paced and swiftly flowing. Zoe discovers new aspects of her abilities, acquaires new skills, but also loses a lot (no details here for "no spoilers" policy:)), and some of those losses are heart-breaking. We find out more about Zoe herself and about her relations with her sister and friends, we also meet new, interesting characters...
I like the way Zoe's character is developed in this book, I also like the fact that the more powerful Zoe is the more enstranged she becomes to those around her. The very human fear of the unknown is very well played by the author here.
As for the narration by Ms Kelley Hazen, it's as good as in the first book. The right reading pace, a nice variety of voices for different characters and good acting skills make for a great listening experience. And even though the audiobook is about 9 hours long, you just want to go on and finish it in one sitting (well, I had to take a break as it was the middle of the night - otherwise I would have listened to the whole thing at once, so good it is:)).
So, if you haven't met Zoe Delante yet, don't wait, grab first Whispers of the Dead and then Whispers of the Serpent - you won't be disappointed:)

I liked the book, unlike the first book, I didn't struggle with this as much as I did the first.Read more
