The Whistler CR Radar Detector Line
When only the best radar detector will do!
Whistler's CR professional grade radar detectors have been designed to the grueling specifications of professional drivers worldwide to bring you some of the most advanced radar detectors on the market. All of the CR detectors include the ability to detect X band, K band, SuperWideBand Ka and Laser protection - the only 4 bands used for speed measurement. They offer 360-degree Maxx coverage to detect from front, sides, and rear, and include 3 city modes/highway modes (City, City 1, and City 2) to reduce the annoyance of false alerts and a quiet mode to silence audio alerts. The Safety Warning System keeps driver informed of highway safety where transmitters are located and Alert Priority displays the most important signal when more than one is detected. The high gain lens provides an increased field of view, as well as a longer range of detection and the vehicle battery saver automatically shuts off unit if not in use. Finally, these radar detectors offer our industry topping VG-2 detection, which, when engaged, can alert to VG-2 when detected.
Basic Features Included with All CR models:
- 360° Maxx Coverage - detects from front, sides, and rear
- TOTAL BAND PROTECTION - X band - K band – Superwide Ka band – Laser, the only 4 bands used for speed measurement
- Alert Priority - displays most important signal when more than one is detected
- Filter Modes - reduce false alerts caused by other radar detectors
LED blinking lights allows for a visual alert when the audible alert can't be heard or has been turned down or silenced.
All CR models come equipped with either a icon color display with numeric signal strength or a blue OLED text display.
All CR detectors are Intellicord compatible. The Whistler Intellicord replaces the standard 12 volt power cord and allows users to remotely control power On/Off, City Modes, Dim/Dark and Quiet/Auto Quiet.
Note: Intellicord sold separately.
All CR detectors come with 12 volt power cord, windshield attachment suction cup and instruction manual.

my configs: all bands on KA set to maxid, tfsr on, no pop. I traveled at a minimum 10 over max 20 over
VA- cops everywhere thing picked every single one of them around corners and hills, had to set it on the dash cause its illegal there much harder to see and it still worked well.
WV- nothing meaning didn't see cops
Illinois- this one was hot cops and traffic cams, first and only full x band from a state trooper, also laser but Chicago traffic was so busy I can't see any cop chasing someone without getting killed.
Wisconsin- decided to turn on pop mode big mistake, it greatly reduces the range please use that one at your own risk, don't know why I didn't get pulled over there.
Minnesota- only state where I passed cops and nothing went off don't know if they are personally looking for speeders and then turn their radar on as soon as you pass, they all wait in the center median so keep eyes open.
North dakota- one cop trying to hide at a gas station it's so open out there the Whistler has unbelievable range, was FLYING!!!
Montana- cops use the old Texas technique where they all drive on the other side of the highway clocking traffic passing them across the median, as soon as you speed pass them they 180 around the median and get you. Your range is reduce with this technique but so are theres, your driving 70 the cop is driving 70 the other way with 140 difference, you must be quick here to stop as soon as the cr90 warns you.
Washington- cops use laser here and traffic cams are EVERYWHERE, still speed through it though most cops use ka. Lots of unmarked cop cars though so be careful
Alaska- few cops open range lots of mountains cops can't really hide
Canada- speed limit was 55 for 400 miles of nothing drove 70 and picked off one cop passing me.
I say this was a great investment for the price, just because you see the cop in the distance when the cr90 goes off does not mean he has you yet I am a prime example of that for sure. Make sure you mount it mid way on windshield not low it reduces range. The KA-ID is the best feature as well as the custom features selection. Must be careful in metro areas. Don't blare music or wear headphones/blue tooth to the point that you can't hear the system go off you only have a second or two stay alert.
With this being said, I have looked all over for a real world review on the new Whistler CR series and couldn't find one. I had done my research and was impressed with the latest Pro 78se and thought there wouldn't be much difference between the Pro78se and the CR85. WRONG! I already bought my wife a CR85 and got to test both (the CR85 and Pro 78se) out in her car. At first, with the same settings, it didn't really seem like much of a difference between the 2 until I had a few encounters. Anyhow, here's the difference in cliffnotes: Settings for BOTH detectors were: X-band OFF, K-band ON, Ka-MAX ID, LSRID, Highway, Pop OFF, SWS ON, TFSR ON, Filter (the default setting), and a few others that shouldn't affect your detection. The BIGGEST difference is the CR85 really does catch ALL the new laser guns! I had both detectors mounted up high just under the tint strip on opposite sides of the rearview mirror about a 12 inches apart (CR85 hardwired) and tested for falsing with this setup vs only one detector on at a time. Both are very quiet here with TFSR ON (a MUST in Atlanta), but the CR85 has additional filter settings if you want that the Pro78se doesn't have (but I don't need to use them since neither falses much at all ever here). I didn't really see any differences with the exception of one KNOWN K-band false alert at a Kaiser Permanente parking lot I frequently pass (meaning I got a false alert while both detectors were on that I normally don't get at all on either by themselves).
The CR85 consistently had AT LEAST a 5 seconds alert head-start traveling 65-70mph = (500-750 feet or so give or take???) over the Pro 78se (lastest version remember so older Pro 78se's will be even slower). The CR85 is also a BEAST with detecting LASER (LIDAR)! I was in the left lane doing 65 mph during moderate traffic and picked up on a GSP shooting laser OFF AXIS (in a slight curve), at the bottom of a hill facing forward (direction of travel) sitting in an exit gore on the right. I got a laser detection at least 0.5 miles back (completely out of sight) give or take, and what makes it so bad, the Pro78se NEVER alerted to it at all. I had PLENTY of time to slow down even if I was doing over 100mph. Of course in Atlanta, you virtually ALWAYS have a rabbit, so that was the tip off to the laser but this was a sneaky trap! Had I been speeding, with the Pro78se I would have been caught! Mind you I've been by dozens of LEOs here with it and it virtually never goes off to lidar (they must be using Laser Ally, Truspeed S, Prolaser III's, etc) and if it does, a blind person would have seen the LEO before the Pro78se went off lol. This is NOT the case with the CR85, it's a BEAST with picking up LIDAR! I had this happen multiple times so far with similar conditions.
Anyhow, I actually feel safe with the CR85's lidar detection with a rabbit or 2 and using your brain of course. I was considering a laser jammer before I saw how well the CR85 has picked up LIDAR! Yes it's THAT GOOD! I didn't discuss K-band and Ka-Band detection much because it's not used much here on the interstates in the metro area, but I can tell you both K and Ka-band detection is GREATLY improved on the CR85 meaning MUCH MORE range and heads-up! Both the Pro78se and CR85 picked up on all K and Ka-band LEOs showing the same ID numbers from what I can remember. The difference between the 2 was so great that my wife told me to pull the trigger on another CR85 for myself which should be here tomorrow lol.
