Great little stove

With 2 cups water in a 5" diameter "Mors" pot and using the supplied wind screen: rolling boil in 5 min 50 sec. The pot sits on the stove. It was steady throughout the test. Fuel was 1 oz hardware store alcohol. It burned out in 6 min 50 sec. Ambient temp 60 F. Same test with a Trangia in a Firebox Nano, with a 10" wind screen, boiled in 7 min 9 sec. Burn out in 9min 30sec. (White Box burns fuel faster.) Note: White Box bloom is lateral, about 5+" diameter. It does climb up the sides of the pot, = hot handles! WB stove cooled to the touch in about 5 min, Trangia twice as long.
Snuffing out White Box test: I cut down a beer can to 1/2" taller than the stove, to cover and put out the fire, (to heat up a hot drink after dinner?) Perfect fit, I thought. Stove was on an old warped baking sheet. Even the paper thin spot gaps between the can and the base pan allowed flames to come out around the bottom of the can. Next time maybe a layer of dirt or sand to set the stove on/in to make an air tight seal....or... just burn it all up and refuel later for that hot toddy.
Storage: the supplied wind screen rolled up around the stove fits perfectly in the cut down beer can...a tidy package. Weight: stove - 1.15oz. Stove, screen & can - total 2.4oz.
I LIKE this stove. Just be aware that the 2.25" diameter stove IS the support stand for your cookware. Careful stove placement is important.

The only downside of this design, over the trangia, is that unless you fill it full, you have to either tilt the stove to get it lit, or reach in with a match. Tilting it is just inviting a spill as you light it, and reaching in with something flaming is likely to get ash or debris inside. So far I haven't had a problem, but if I could figure out a way to glue a fiberglass wick to the inside of this thing, I'd be happier.

The aluminum is thick enough to be sturdy, but also thick enough to hold some heat after the flame is out. You might be surprised how much heat, and then you'll use a hotmat or learn to let it sit for ten minutes.

It doesn't come with any way to snuff the flame. Don't use a cut-open soda can - these stoves generate enough heat to deform the paper thin metal used in some soda cans and you'll end up with a hot, flaming mess. If you sit it in a junk alunimum fry pan, add a little water to the bottom of the pan, and then invert a large metal cup over the stove, air won't get through the seal the water makes and the stove goes out quickly. The pan also means that if you upset the stove, you won't light yourself on fire.

The heat output is impressive. Once the side jets catch (can take over a minute), they flame outward as shown in the product picture, or even a little further. The alcohol burns quickly; this is meant to boil water, not cook anything delicate. The side jets produce a consistent, even flame. It burns about silently and there's no loud pop like the trangia mysteriously makes when it settles in. When the alcohol is almost gone, the side jets diminish in size and heat. This is NOT a clue to pour in more alcohol. Let it go out before refilling it. Note that after the side jets go out, there's still a good few seconds of low flame happening in the central well, and it's hard to see. A puff of air will put that out.

I burn denatured alcohol. Straight ethanol, if you have a cheap source, would work well. Avoid straight methanol (too toxic) or isopropyl (messy), and forget non-alcohol fuels. Please don't dump fuel on the ground - methanol is toxic to more than just humans. The "smoke" from denatured alcohol is *reasonably* harmless in low concentrations and I do use this indoors... with ventilation.

I like the simplicity - it's a single piece of aluminium, no moving parts, light and sturdy enough. Keep debris out of it and it should last for years. Minus one star for no snuffer and the slight inconvenience of lighting it with small fuel loads.

I gave this stove 5 stars because it is exactly as described. Bloom time is 45 -60 seconds depending on the amount of fuel you use and ambient temperature. From full the stove burns approximately 20 minutes. With a 6" diameter anodized aluminum pan covered (MSR Quick Solo Pot) it boils 2 cups of tap water in exactly four minutes (from bloom, tap water temp 70 degrees F) with a soft boil starting at 3 minutes 10 seconds. The height is approximately 2.25" and the diameter is approximately 2.375". It is stable with the aforementioned pot and it seems that it could probably hold something larger securely as well. The weight of the stove is 1.08 oz and the weight of the wind screen is .95 oz. The walls of the stove are very sturdy and will undoubtedly hold up well for years of service.

One thing worth mentioning is that the flame is quite wide. The image from the seller shows a narrower flame. However, when you set your pot on it, the flame flattens and spreads out to significantly larger pattern. With a 6" pot the flame extended slightly around the edges on all sides. Although it it would work with a smaller pot or mug you should be mindful that it is going to heat from the sides and your container will be very hot. Make sure that any attached handles are non-combustible. A pot grabber would be best even if your mug does have attached handles. This is a full-on boiler and not something you would use for simmering.

In general, I give this stove two thumbs up. It's going in the cooking kit on my next trip for sure.

So I have tried this against the Esbit Tablets and the Fancee Feest alcohol stove in January in Northern Minnesota. The white box was much better than the tablets to get a boil going. However it didn't outperform the Fancee Feest stove, it wasn't even close. What I experienced was a short period of having to prime the stove before it produced its full flame. Yeah it was below 0 degrees F, and it will take a while to get going, however, once going, it produced a mighty flame and cooked well. It is probably better suited for applications that need a wide flame (think skillet). Also it gobbled up the alcohol. I will retest in summer type conditions and add it as a comment here. It is super light, easy to use, packs well, produces a great flame, and I really like it for the price. I think its a great stove but will take the Fancee Feest stove over it. Also, trick for priming, use a piece of foil under the stove during priming, it helped. Also the windscreen it came with was fantastic. I would buy it again.
