Well Worth the Time

When I first saw this, I thought of movies like the Cube series and the Killing Room. My wife and I both love those movies and I thought this would be similar from reading the description. There weren't any reviews yet and I hadn't ever heard of it, but worse things have happened to me than not liking a movie I rented. Besides, it was either this or mow the lawn.

The Cube movies were a little scarier and had more gore in them. (This still had some gore though.) This movie was really intense at times, but it was also more character and story driven. And that is sort of the trade-off here. This wasn't just about putting people into a box and seeing what terrible things come out of it. This was more thought-provoking. It had a lot of twists in it, and there were many times I had to reassess how I felt about different things from a moral perspective. And to me, that makes the movie that much better. Morals aren't these simple black-and-white things that make clear sense. They are much more nuanced than that. And I enjoyed that this movie made me reflect on that.

In short, it was interesting, engaging, and much more than I expected. I liked all the characters and the actors did a great job. I thought the direction was done well, and as I said, it was pretty intense at times. I've already recommended it to a couple of people and think you should watch it. I'll be buying it so we can watch it again in the future.

This was an awful film. 1) The plot line is not well developed and pretty lame, lackluster; 2) The acting was sub par; 3) It was not even suspenseful; 4) it is unnecessarily gory (similar to gory zombie) scenes. On top of all that, there are several commercials in between. I wouldn't watch this at all, waste of time even if it's free.

Social Justice Warrior inspired Malaise

The idea behind this movie is the Authoritarian state of Great Britain which hates minorities verses the Rebel State which opposes the Racist State. The movie focuses on the state testing chemicals on a leader of the Rebel State. The idea is to be able to create a soldier who is impervious to pain, who doesn't need to sleep, and one who is in a state of euphoria and rage, in short a Gung Ho battle soldier. So a leader of the Racist State tortures a general of the Rebel State because she lost a brother. By the end of the movie the scientist of the Racist State is in the same cube she used to torture the Rebel. I found the idea of the Racist State being RACIST because they would begin to question ideas like Diversity and Diversity Makes us Stronger, to be your typical social justice material. You have to love and appreciate invading hordes of migrants simply because you HAVE TO. Fortunately these ideas did not permeate the movie. But it was one side against the other. By the end of the movie the scientist realized she had been wrong to torture the general and she was recruited to work for the NON racist party but she had an evil plan still at the very end. As a whole the movie didn't really go anywhere. The movie wasn't particularly good or bad. The movie just didn't go much of anywhere. It was good enough to hold your attention. The acting is good but the story didn't solve anything. You can say it is a rip off of the Cube movies. That is fair but really the cell is just a holding chamber and there are no other cubes to venture into and the same cube that offers safety can be turned into a torture chamber just as easily. So this movie isn't a rip off of the Cube movies, not really. And if it is then holding someone in an underground bunker could also be called a Cube rip off. So you see the bad analogy. This movie can't help but remind others of the Cube series but it is different enough to stand alone in it's plot. The idea is to TEST CHEMICALS not to mindlessly kill people in the cell. Sure, the people in the cells would be killed later or held as prisoners but the people in the cell are not in the world of The Cube. Sure, big money or government or military are behind both the cube and the cell but they are different ideas. In the Cube series not much is know about why the cubes exist. In the torture cell, we know what the plan was, what the goals are. Anyway, the movie disappoints.
