I read this in one sitting. I'm a big fan of Laura Strickland's work, so I was thrilled to see this latest offering. Her writing style is wonderful. In fact, it doesn't feel like writing, which is why it's likely so easy to escape into her books. I especially love the way she writes dialogue. It's always so natural and true to the character's background and era.

The White Gull is a tale of romance overshadowed by mystery, malice and intrigue. Will Lisbeth come to understand the truth about Declan, her missing husband? What is the reason behind the ghostly sightings of him? Will Rab, the man who has loved her from childhood, finally find a place in her heart? Er, no spoilers from me. I suggest you read The White Gull to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved it!

Received this book for an honest review.

The White Gull was a surprisingly good story. It was about a woman who fell in love with the boy and then married the man then lost him. You have a man who has loved a girl and longed for the woman but did not win her. He is willing to love quietly than to choose another. This is the story of Lisbeth O'Shea and Rab Sinclair.

Miss Strickland wrote a book that gives you a look at a different time and way of life that of a fisherman and a blacksmith. She gives you characters who are loyal even to a fault she gives you a hero who loves quietly but yet intensely and he would do anything for the woman that he loves.

Rab has loved Lisbeth since they were children but she only had eyes for Declan. When she married Declan Rab wished Lisbeth had know the truth about her husband but he could not tell her for fear she would cut him out of her life.

Declan had a presence that charmed a many a woman. He knew the only way to get Lisbeth was to marry her. He was selfish and lived only for the moment.

In this remote fishing village secrets, plots and plans abound. People will be physically hurt, lies will be told and the truth will hurt but only by exposing these secrets can healing begin.

This story was an enjoyable read with a steady pace.

Given to me for an honest review. Lisbeth O'Shea is still trying to face the death of her husband after a year. The White Gull washed ashore completely smashed and his body was never recovered. But now she keeps hearing her husband calling her name at night every time there is a storm. Her marriage was not great but still she misses him. The blacksmith fell in love with her the first time he saw her, but her eyes were only for the boy who held the school door open for her. All of her friends worry about her living alone and close to the water. Even Lisbeth wonders if Declan is really there. If he's real why didn't he come back sooner? If he's a ghost why wait a year before haunting her? Is Declan's brother paying tricks on her?
