The White Gull was a surprisingly good story. It was about a woman who fell in love with the boy and then married the man then lost him. You have a man who has loved a girl and longed for the woman but did not win her. He is willing to love quietly than to choose another. This is the story of Lisbeth O'Shea and Rab Sinclair.
Miss Strickland wrote a book that gives you a look at a different time and way of life that of a fisherman and a blacksmith. She gives you characters who are loyal even to a fault she gives you a hero who loves quietly but yet intensely and he would do anything for the woman that he loves.
Rab has loved Lisbeth since they were children but she only had eyes for Declan. When she married Declan Rab wished Lisbeth had know the truth about her husband but he could not tell her for fear she would cut him out of her life.
Declan had a presence that charmed a many a woman. He knew the only way to get Lisbeth was to marry her. He was selfish and lived only for the moment.
In this remote fishing village secrets, plots and plans abound. People will be physically hurt, lies will be told and the truth will hurt but only by exposing these secrets can healing begin.
This story was an enjoyable read with a steady pace.
The White Gull is a tale of romance overshadowed by mystery, malice and intrigue. Will Lisbeth come to understand the truth about Declan, her missing husband? What is the reason behind the ghostly sightings of him? Will Rab, the man who has loved her from childhood, finally find a place in her heart? Er, no spoilers from me. I suggest you read The White Gull to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved it!
