WHH basically picks up where HSH left us. Kate and Ian are married and settling into their new life, new home and new adventures. They are still the hilarious, awesome, so in love couple that we know and love, and I am so glad for this. The author has a true gift when it comes to writing dialogue, and their quick-witted banter is just so much fun to read. Both Kate and Ian's personalities come shining through once again and I just could not get enough of them. They're so in love, and just want each other to be happy, to be fulfilled in their day to day lives and above all to be safe and secure. Their emotions are real, I felt everything they did every step of the way, and again, this is a testament to the author's excellent story-telling.
One thing I love about this book is that it gives the reader a glimpse into Kate and Ian's day to day lives without a constant sense of foreboding. There is no drama for the sake of drama. There are plenty of moments where you think uh-oh, things might not go well here, but quickly enough you breathe a sigh of relief, and the worry is gone. On the other hand, there is plenty of adventure and excitement within the world of cyberterrorism and hacking, which I found absolutely fascinating (and a bit creepy). Clearly Tracey Garvis-Graves has done her research, as everything is explained clearly and accurately when it comes to Ian's work; as someone who does not know much about this topic, I truly appreciated her efforts and thank her for being thorough.
Another amazing part of this story is the love and romance. Kate and Ian have such a wonderful relationship and the author conveys this perfectly. They're married now, but have not lost their sense of romance and passion one bit. While I found their dialogue to be a bit funnier in the first book, I still found myself laughing at their text exchanges and conversations throughout WHH, and loved every bit of it. Their personalities really shine through in this story and I just love them both so much.
Do Kate and Ian get their HEA? Yes, they do. This is not a spoiler, as we know it's coming and it's well-deserved and I will just say that it is perfect. Truly perfect for them. I found myself with a huge smile on my face for the entire epilogue, although as I read the last sentences I felt sad knowing this was the end of their story. I will miss Kate and Ian, but they have been given the life they have more than earned.
Thank you Tracey Garvis-Graves for yet another outstanding story. I cannot wait to see what you have in store for your readers in the future.
It concludes the story that was started in Heart Shaped Hacked. It was a bit slow at first. Which is understandable as Kate and Ian settle into their married life. With no job, leaving her friends behind, and little contact with her family, Kate is restless.
Ian is learning that starting a new business from the ground up is difficult without his reputation to fall back on. He's bought them a beautiful home, and tasked Kate with making it hers. But neither of them are completely content with their new life.
So when the opportunity arises, Kate takes on a new adventure in a part time job. And Ian returns to a former job, that is more challenging.
The action picks up about half way through the book. When a threat from Ian's past resurfaces. And starts getting a little too close for comfort when he gets through Ian's elaborate security system.
I loved Kate and Ian's story. It had its ups and downs, but ends very happily. Most of the questions were answered and their story was wrapped up nicely. I'm still unsure of the information given in the coda. Does it hint at another book? What reason could there be for adding that tidbit of information? Not sure. Just left more questions.
It ended with a great epilogue. (I'm a reader that loves a good epilogue) It gives us a glimpse into their future, and a peek at the lives of the other characters. And mends a relationship. It was good.
