For this late eighties renaissance album, Dolly Parton told producer Ricky Skaggs to "Take Me Back to the Country." After years of mediocre pop-oriented material, Dolly returned to her traditional roots, and the results were very, very impressive!
From the playful humor of "Why Did You Come in Here Lookin' Like That?" to the penetrating laments of "What is it About You My Love?" Dolly does justice to many classic country themes. "The Moon, The Stars, and Me " is a touching tale of betrayal. The title song with its offbeat spelling is another light offering with a bouncy beat, and "Time for Me to Fly" which seems like it would be appropriate among Patsy Cline's repertoire is actually a countrified remake of a rock offering and seems to provide a homecoming for the song. Mac Davis duets with her on one cut, reminding listeners that his voice is too rarely heard from these days.
The album's unquestionable standout is "He's Alive" which has become something of a gospel music classic. Dolly's performance is a reverent show-stopper. It has become the finale of her live shows and is the type of song that can stand many repetitions without getting stale.
This collection started Dolly back on the road to artistic elegance even if most disc jockeys ignore her these days. White Limozeen is just one more reason to turn off the radio's cowboy hatted clones and enjoy the stellar country of Dolly and her contemporaries.

I bought this album primarily for one song, "He's Alive". The song and Dolly's delivery of it gives me chills. There is no other artist, male or female, that can deliver that song with such feeling and power. I enjoyed the other songs as well. She is a songwriter/story teller extraordinaire.

Although I like every song on this CD, I bought it strictly for the last song, He's Alive! This, to me, is my favorite religious song, and I believe is the world's greatest Easter Song. I plan to play it at my church on Easter Sunday to really send people out with the joyful Christian message.

"Take Me Back To The Country", the 8th song on this CD, is a fitting title, as WHITE LIMOZEEN was Dolly's return to country music. In 1987, she teamed up with Linda Ronstandt and Emmylou Harris on the successful TRIO album, but this was her first solo country album in a long while. Country radio, readily accepted her with open arms, as this album spun off a few hits: the title track, "Yellow Roses" and "Why'd You Come In Here Lookin Like That".
The album was produced by Ricky Skaggs. Dolly wrote 4 of the 10 songs on the album. The ballads are spectacular. "Yellow Roses" is very deserving of it's hit status, it's a really good ballad from Dolly about heartbreak over an ended relationship. Same goes for "The Moon, The Stars, And Me", which is a nice ballad, also kind of sad. "Slow Healing Heart" and "What Is It My Love" are also nice ballads. She does a nice cover of "Time For Me To Fly", which is a great uptempo song to open the album with. "He's Alive" is an epic ballad which is very intense and uplifting. A nice gospel song.
Overall, WHITE LIMOZEEN was one of her best albums in a long time at that point of release in 1989, and it's still one of her best albums. In fact, probably her best album she recorded for Columbia Records.

He's Alive is the very reason I went to purchase this CD. Someone posted a live performance by Dolly on Easter, and I had to buy it again (had the cassette) so I could listened at will. Great price, and it is a good recording.

This is one of Dolly Partons best CD's. It has a wide variety of songs on it. They are all fun and up lifting. I would reccommend this one to any one. It takes me back to when I was younger and would listen to this CD and my younger sister would come in and dance to the songs. :)

I'm only reviewing the last song on the CD, "He's Alive". This emotionally-charged song is a triumph unlike any I've heard before. From it's modest beginning through to it's sweeping orchestral climax, it captures then rivets the listener in place. This is truly a stirring tour-de-force that can easily move one to tears. I'm barely religious and this phenomenal song has a grip on me! Hallelujah, Dolly!
