The ONLY reason this doesn't get a full five stars with trumpets blaring and fireworks going off is that it is next to impossible to keep mileages accurate because of variations in odometers, driving to campsites and the like and trying to keep an eye on a GPS all the time (big props for including coordinates) isn't always the most convenient, especially when you're driving by yourself,
If you are going to do the White Rim Trail by all means get this book it will make the journey more enjoyable.
+ Detailed campsite information
+ History of sites and place names along the way
+ Descriptions of the various sections of the trail
+ The hand drawn maps (but see dislikes too)
- There are references to more info that will appear in later editions
- It is assumed that you will travel clockwise and there are no mileage numbers for those traveling the route the other direction
- The lettering on the maps is tiny, bordering on difficult to read
If you want a detailed book about traveling this route (clockwise) and the campsites available along the way, this is the best one I've seen. It's a good companion to A Naturalist's Guide to the White Rim Trail, which has more information on the geology and wildlife of the area.
In full disclosure I was provided a no charge copy of the book by the author. I liked it enough that I subsequently purchased a copy for a friend of mine.
I find book and video's such as this very helpful to me when looking at new trails to drive. Having the benefit of the what to see and do along the trail is huge. So many times we pass over the most interesting and historical parts of a trail because we just don't know what there is to see down side road!
Very helpful and enjoyable read about The White Rim Trail!
