Green’s Iced trilogy has a truly kick-butt and take-names heroine. Thirteen is an ex-slave who can dish it out when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, acrobatics, tenacity, surviving ice-age cold, and ice sailing. People skills, not so much. Her life aboard an ice-sailing boat is immersive, and the details build the world more completely without overpowering the story.
Thirteen survives on this Pacific ice sheet, killing off slavers and freeing captives. Known as the Ghost, she is determined to find and free her sister. Along the way, she rescues up a young girl and her father and becomes embroiled in schemes that reach further than she could imagine.
I really enjoyed these books, the editing was great, the storyline flowed, and there was a lot of action. The science behind the book was seamless and real, and in fact, much of the science is explained in the bonus materials for this omnibus.
I read these books having first encountered Green's Techno-Shaman series, which I enjoyed immensely, especially its originality. I think she does one better here. I’m looking forward to more from this author.
This is a great trilogy. There is excitement, action, emotion, all without having to have a love story. There is still love in the story, but the story is not dependent on a romantic relationship. On to the reviews.
I love my stubborn heroines that survive in spite of the odds being stacked against them, and Thirteen fits the bill. In an ice age dystopia where death is a constant, she survives and even saves others. She isn't nice, or kind, but she is good. She may not trust anyone but herself, but she can do amazing things for people anyway.
Cord intrigues me. There is definitely more to him than we have seen so far. His single minded pursuit to get his daughter back from slavers is intense.
These two together are amazing. They are both so focused, and have so many secrets. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
This one was very interesting. I got to see a new side to each of the characters this time.
Thirteen - she will always be a total bad ass. But this time we got to see a little softer side to her. The way she has taken to Miyu is really sweet. In this book we see just how far she will go for those she considers hers.
Miyu - She is smart, determined, and I just want to protect her from all the awful things in her world. The interactions between her and Thirteen brought a lot of heart and feeling to this book.
Cord - He is one tough guy. He is still a mystery that I would love to crack. He shows tenderness one moment, and kick ass the next.
The three of them find themselves in new and dangerous situations. It takes a lot of skill, bravery, and intelligence to make it through.
This book was full of revelations from start to finish. It was a fitting end for the series.
After spending so much of her life looking for her sister, Thirteen finally finds her with Cord's help. But it comes in a way she had never imagined. Cord's secrets are also revealed.
I felt like this book was an emotional roller coaster, not just for me, but for the characters as well. Would Thirteen, Miyu, or Cord get the happy ending they deserve after all they have been through? Would Cefiro get his comeuppance? What is up with the Queen? Who is Cord really?
This book provides these answers and more.
all together, that's just amazing! This is one of my most favorite bundles ever. You'll be glad
you bought it because once you start reading you're going to want to have the next book
ready and waiting to go. I like that it also includes the free book The Science of White World.
It's a companion book that answers a lot of questions you think about when you're reading
the series. I loved it and can't thank Ms. Green enough for it. I would highly recommend
this entire series and bundle to everyone. I enjoyed it very much, and I think you will too.
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
