I ordered this mat with the intent of customizing it for Pokemon TCG gameplay. It's of decent quality for the price, but it's the type of product that needs to be taken really good care of. Definitely not something you can kick around and expect it not to become frayed or peeled. (Hence why I only gave it four stars.) As long as it's stored properly it should last for quite awhile.

The fabric surface is a dream to work with though! It doesn't take well to erasing, so I'd advise you sketch very very lightly, or do what I did and acquire a transfer pencil. (If you must erase, use a gum eraser. I found it worked best.) Once you have your design layed out, the fabric takes well to just about any medium. I used colored pencils, sharpies, prismacolors, water-based markers (think Crayola), acrylic paint, and chalk pastels (for filling in the background).

Markers do bleed a tad, so press very lightly with those. Colored pencils on the other hand have to be pressed down fairly hard to get them to lay any significant color down. I'd highly recommend buying two of these if you plan to do your own customization. One to practice on so you can get the hang of different mediums, and one for the actual design. I sprayed my finished design with workable fixative to help preserve it and prevent it from rubbing of onto my cards.

The mat itself is best described as being a very large, over-sized mousepad. The thickness of the mat itself is about half the thickness of an average mousepad. If your planning to try customization for the first time, this is definitely a good mat to go with.

Playmat for Custom Art

I purchased 2 of these playmats so that I can do custom artwork on them.
I've never worked with this material, but I tested a sharpie on one of them and it doesn't seem to feather or bleed (as long as you don't press hard. Light strokes are a must.).
The item arrived quickly, but it would have been quicker if USPS hadn't shipped it to the wrong carrier facility (of course, this is not the seller's fault and it does not affect the product's condition.).
Both mats that arrived were rolled together, wrapped and shipped in a box so neither of them were warped or bent in any way.
It is a very crisp white which is what I was hoping for so all of the colors I use show true on the mat.
Needless to say, I'm very excited to get started.

Bigger than normal size playmats (ultra pro), but not by much. It feels great. I had never drawn on one before, but it came out great and I gave it to a friend as a gift. He loved it. If you use pencil on it, it may smudge, but it is pretty much on there forever, no erasing, as that will just cause eraser marks to ruin the bright white of the mat. It gets smudgy and dirty because it's so bright white, but I don't really know how to avoid that. Either way, it's what you want if you're drawing a hand-done playmat for Magic: the Gathering or whatever. Great price, too.

The playmat I received was actually a blank white Ultra-Pro mat that does have a small Ultra-Pro logo in the lower lefthand corner. This was fine for my purposes but if you need a completely blank playmat then buyer beware. The quality of course is great as Ultra-Pro mats usually are. Since it seems from the other reviews that no one else has mentioned receiving an Ultra-Pro mat then perhaps this is not what is normally shipped but it is what I recieved.

I got this mat to do a custom drawing on it for a friend's birthday. It works great with pens, colored pencils, and brush-tip markers. Sharpies and chisel-tip markers will bleed. Prismacolor markers and pencils work well with it though I have not tried any cheaper brands on it.
Regular pencil drawings will rub off over time and come off somewhat easily with a white plastic eraser or Magic Rub eraser.

If you need a blank mat to do custom art work on, this mat is a good pick.

Awesome mat. It's great for custom making your own mat by drawing on it, and the material really soaks up sharpie very well so your designs should stay very resilient. It also doubles as a perfect mouse pad when you aren't slinging cards (I'm pretty sure the material for mouse pads is the same as playmat material).
