He had to keep telling himself it was real--this was really happening. When this failed to restore his sense of reality, he reached for Ciaran with both hands. He placed his hands on each side of his neck. As his cool hands felt the warmth there, he convinced himself he was not dreaming, but this left him breathless. 'I'm not sure I can keep up.'"

And, a passage from further in: "In a culture that demands male stoicism, Rand was wholly uncertain about how men allowed themselves to be vulnerable with one another. Ciaran found this lack of knowing sweet and refreshingly attractive, and he went about showing Rand how things might be between men. This made Rand feel he could be intimate with Ciaran, but it also made him feel vulnerable. It fueled his fear that he would be unable to keep pace with Ciaran's experience given all he had to learn. Yet, wanting Ciaran, he committed to trying despite his lack of confidence."
