About the Author

Nicholas Alan Cope was born in Takoma Park, Maryland and started taking photographs as a teenager. He moved to Los Angeles in 2002 and began studying photography at Art Center College of Design in 2004. His time is now split between a series of personal projects and a growing commercial practice. He also works in collaboration with creative director Dustin Arnold on a number of his projects as well as an ongoing publication of their own creation. Nicholas has been the recipient of numerous awards as well as inclusion in PDN's "30 in 2011."

This is a striking photo book. It was a no brainer addition to my collection. Cope's photography and all around imagery is a great addition to any coffee table or book shelf. I've had it sitting on my coffee table for about three months and everyone who comes over to my apartment seems to instinctively reach for it and flip through it. I have a feeling it will have a place at my coffee table for a long time. Highly recommend it.

Cope has taken the feeling of California's powerful light and focused it on the abstract, minimal architecture right in front of us in this sprawling city of Los Angeles. His work strips away all of the chaotic nonsense of LA to find beauty in simple forms, lines, and shadows. Buy this book if you want to own a piece of the legacy of Cope's work..... And it looks Ah-Mazing on your dang coffee table. I mean, people wont shut up about it when they pick it up and look through it. Buy it for your library, if you love photography, if you Love LA, if you love insanely beautiful imagery, just do it!!!!!

Whitewash composition

A vigorous exploration of light and shadows ability to define space. Nick has produced a great series of strong compositions using a limited pallet. This is a work set in LA and as noted by other reviewers can be seen as exploring its various dichotomies but, it is just as accessible as study of lights ability to abstract space.
