This shoe rack was too big and cumbersome for my small closet door (it shifted every time the door was opened or closed). So I had to install it on an inside wall of the closet. I did not use the two metal support brackets, but instead drilled holes into the top side supports and attached the rack to the wall with screws. Works great. See photo.

I've been using this since last April and it works great! I have a ton of shoes (too many) and this is a great way to get them out of those stupid boxes and off the floor. My only negative is that it limited the space I have to walk into my closet as I have a door that opens out. Other than that, I have no complaints. All my high heels (3"-5") fit great. And on a side note, while it didn't quite hold all my shoes, I ended up buying some cute inexpensive towel racks from Ikea and hanging them on a wall next to my closet and there I display all my favorite high heels (just a thought for all you ladies looking for ideas...I got it from Pinterest).

This is a terrific way to display a shoe collection, especially for the money. The only problem is that it is just a little bit too utilitarian: it positions the shoe with the rear facing up and out and the front hidden - other than being able to tell the color, it kind of hides the whole shoe. The solution: mount the rack up-side-down! Simply flip it over, and use a drill to make a new screw-hole for the attachment of the rack to the over-door clip (you'll need a couple of 3/4" #10 sheet-metal screws from the hardware store or your workbench). This allows the shoes to be 'displayed' beautifully, with the heel over the rack (against the door) and the front of the shoe sloping downward and shown entirely. Try it and see - it makes this the "perfect" shoe rack :-)

I needed a small shoe rack to hang in my very small hall closet. This fits perfectly because it's the smallest in terms of depth that I was able to find. The actual quality of the rack itself though is poor. It was easy to assemble as the bars just pushed into place and there were no screws required. But because the bars are just snapped into place and there was nothing holding it into the notch, the bars kept falling apart with too much weight (and I only put 3 pairs of shoes on each rack!). In a month the rack started to curve because it seemed like there was too much weight on one side. Overall, if you need a small shoe rack this is the smallest option that holds a lot of shoes, but if you want quality then walk away.

I like the rack. HOWEVER. I am a 'guy', so my larger shoes will have to be placed at an angle on each shelf, and as a result, two pairs fit on each shelf. In other words it will hold 24 pair of mens shoes. I don't have that many, anyway, but just a warning.

ALSO, there is NO indication that there is an issue of how wide the closet doors should be. I have two 24" doors on a wide closet. It fits on the door, alright, but the inside door knob has to be removed. EVEN THEN, the door won't shut without each 'shelf' dragging the door facing as it was trying to close! I was able to cut at least 1/2-5/8" off the 'hinge side' metal hanger, and now it BARELY will shut (with, at times, a shelf STILL dragging, lightly, the door facing). I wanted the shoe rack, and was contemplating cutting an inch off each of the 24 rods(yuk!), just to make it work. I may still have to if it starts marking the door facing.

I was excited to get this shoe rack so my stereotypical large shoe collection could be stored up off the floor giving me more closet space. I was wary of the product's quality based on some of the negative reviews. I put it together and it did seem a bit unsturdy, but I figured I would give it a shot. Sure enough, after a couple times of closing the door, my shoes came tumbling down as the metal rods fell out of their plastic supports. Not easily deterred, I was determined to make this work because it is so awesome for shoe storage. Things like under bed storage etc. make it harder to access shoes and this is so easy to see all of your shoes laid out in front of you. I decided to try driving a nail through the plastic support that would then secure the metal rod. After banging it with a hammer a few times I realized a. the nail was not going to go through, but b. just hitting had pushed the metal rod into the plastic much more securely! I took the whole thing off the wall and hammered the back of each plastic support on each side and could feel each rod move into the plastic support about 1/4" more! I pulled on the rods and found I now couldn't pull them out if I wanted to. So much more secure! If you have a problem with the rods staying in, or even before putting it up, I HIGHLY recommend pulling out the hammer and making sure the rods are really fully inserted. If you want this shoe rack to really work - ignore the "tool-free assembly" slogan and hammer the rods in. The little extra effort will save your door, your walls, your shoe rack, and your shoes!

Ok, so I was a little scared to buy this because of all the people saying it falls apart easily, but I'm glad I bought it! I have wide feet, so a lot of my shoes are wide width, and I can still squeeze 3 pairs of heels on one shelf (2 wide width and 1 regular width). With flats, I can fit 4 pairs by laying them on their sides. I bump into it alllll the time and it has not fallen apart on me yet! What you want to make sure you do is this: once you've gotten all the rods into both sides of the rack, lay it one one side (not lying flat on the ground) and hammer each rod a couple of times (on a hard surface)...then turn it around on to the other side and hammer all the rods again! After I did this, they would not budge. One of the best purchases I've made all year...and it's fairly inexpensive. If you're on the fence, I'd say jump and go for it.
