"What I was born to be" is an original composition specifically written for Susan Boyle by American singer-songwriter, Audra Mae, in collaboration with Play Production, a little known Swedish songwriting and production trio. Play Production composed the music while Audra Mae wrote the lyrics. In preparation for the work, Audra Mae researched the life story of the Scottish singer and hence the song is biographical in nature. In "her" song, Susan Boyle tells of her vocal gift as a child, her failure as a struggling artist, and now that success is finally bestowed on her, she is ready to face the world with open arms and soar. Accompanied by a beautiful tune at the piano and supported by a chorus and an orchestra, this song showcases the full vocal range of the talented Susan Boyle. Credit must also be given to the LJ singers, a gospel group led by Lawrence Johnson, which sings the chorus in the final verse.

One might want to take note of the lyricist and the composer of this song. Audra Mae, a budding singer-songwriter, was born in Oklahoma in 1985 great grand niece of Judy Garland. In October 2009, Audra Mae released a 5-song digital EP Haunt, produced by SideOne Dummy Records. A full-length debut album is said to be due in March 2010. There is scant information on "Play Production", but I think they are Norell Oson Bard, a Swedish songwriting and production trio made up of Tim Norell, Ola Håkansson, and Alexander Bard. Their work mainly consists of pop & disco music for Swedish artists.

This is one of my favorite songs from Susan Boyle's album, I Dreamed a Dream. It summarizes her quest for her identity as she struggled through life. She is now who she "was born to be". Her vocals are perfect for this song... soaring up to the heights! I can't wait to hear more originals written for her. I absolutely love her voice and the fact that she is "authentic".

I have watched everything I can find on the internet about this lady, from her first audition to her first leg of a world tour, and I wonder why she wasn't discovered years ago. She has a beautiful voice and puts such emotion into all of her songs, and she has stayed a regular person and hasn't let fame and fortune go to her head. This is a song written for her and I recommend this album highly.

The world is finally able to hear the magnificent voice of Susan Boyle. I have played this CD over and over and over again, never tiring of listening to her rendition of each song on the CD. Three cheers to this delightful lady.
