Although for the most part it was well-written, the insta-love between the two main characters was over the top silly to me. I just didn't feel the chemistry although Travis and Mel were more interesting a duo and I wish their story would have been told in more detail instead.
Events that could have been resolved easier (call Amy already!) were drawn out too long for my tastes and the sudden dive into the voyeurism scenario on their vacation was misplaced. I get that they were young but they were very immature and their reactions took away from the story.
I know I'm in the minority but I'm not sure this author is for me. I really tried but sometimes it just doesn't work.
The love and emotion that were put into this book is indescribable. I absolutely loved Brynlee and Brody. They were amazing, real and a perfect balance to each other. I felt the butterflies in my stomach when they met and the goosebumps and quivers from their first touch to the fear, pain and tears throughout their journey. Kelly takes you there. It is not sugar coated, it is real. Their love is real, their pain is real, their emotions are real. Sometimes it sucks, but how and what can you do to pull through this?
What amazes me is Kelly's ability to continue on with this book after finding out about her own sister finding out she had breast cancer. I honestly believe things happen for a reason. She was able to pour her feelings into this book as Melanie and her sister's battle with cancer being Brynlee's fight for life.
Melanie and Travis were great too! They added tears when they needed to fall and laughs when they needed to be heard.
To me this was so much more than a love story. It is a life story. It was an inspirational journey.
Take the time please to go on this journey with Kelly told through Brynlee and Brody's story. You will not be disappointed!
Kelly deserves more than 5 stars for this book!! Let this help serve as a reminder to do your monthly breast exams and to go in annually for your mammogram. Early detection is key to kicking cancer's ass!!
My prayers continue for Kelly's sister.
Thank you Kelly for another amazing book!
Brynlee has her life planned out. She is going to graduate college and move back home and run her parents vineyard, find love and live happily ever after. But life doesn't always go as planned. Can she find a way to overcome the curve balls thrown her way? Or will she end up giving up because live gets rough?
Brody is the perfect man. He wants Brynlee and doesn't hide it. He would do anything for her. Is he the cause of her life not going as planned? Or will he be there to help her pick up the pieces?
This book is about friendship, love, lose and forgiveness. I really enjoyed watching Brynlee and Brody grow into the people they became. They are both amazing characters!!! I was a little sad we didn't see more Mel and Travis, but love that we did get closure with them!!! I'd still read a book about them if Kelly was to ever write one!!
Now what made it so beautiful for me? That is harder to put into words. (Of course!) Naturally you have that it is so well written, and that you can easily lose yourself in the story and connect with the characters. But there were a few key things that really resonated with me that just tipped the scale. First you could just feel how much this book meant to the author. You can see it for yourself in the dedication... but you can actually feel it. What do I mean by this? You know when you just get those feels from a character? When it is just so well written that what they do, what they feel is so real, so emotional that you live it along with them. Yeah... you get that here. The other big thing for me was that nothing really felt forced or overdone in the book. This was a book that you could really see happening. But it took the ordinary - and told the story with such finesse, such beauty, such poignancy, that you were completely swept away in the story. I was with the characters the entire way - with them I fell in love, my heart broke, I experienced fear, nerves, regret, longing, passion, tears, hope, forgiveness and joy.
Who We Were was a quick read. But not in that oooh this is a fun quick read... no you just sit down and find yourself lost in Brynlee & Brody's love story, so you keep flipping through as you drink it all in.
I definitely recommend this book!
I received a complimentary copy of Who We Were in exchange for my honest review.
Holy WOW! This was the first book I have ever read by this author and it didn't disappoint. In fact I am SO pissed I haven't read her before as I have a few of her books and I read others say great things about her! (Sorry Kelly!!)
This story threw me for a loop, and I had no clue that was where it was going to head when I read the blurb and started. I was expecting a second chance lover story based on a winery. That is definitely not what you got, you got SO MUCH BETTER.
This book had great characters, and supporting characters that made this story all it could be. It was about love, fighting for what you believe in, family, strength, and learning about personal strength! Thanks Kelly for such a great story! I can't wait to read many more of your stories!
