I want my high school freshman-to-be to learn about Shakespeare prior to reading one of his plays. Shakespeare is known world-wide and his life story during the Elizabethan era speaks to the culture of the times.

I purchased a book of Shakespeare plays to follow the reading of the short biography.

I borrowed this book for my son (6.5 years old). I read it myself before I read it to him(Since there are very few black illustration, I try to use my words to tell him about every chapter.) This book tell you not only Shakespeare but also something happened in that era. His most well known plays were summarized; You got a whole picture of Shakespeare after reading this book; I like the tone of the book, very impersonality, modest. I decide to buy it. It worth to collect.

This is the second of this series that I have purchased for my 9-year-old twin granddaughters. I bought this to accompany some photos I have of Stratford-upon-Avon and a couple of books of Shakespeare's plays that I gave them along with this book. They are voracious readers and I wanted something that they could understand and enjoy. This book fits the bill !

My 9-year-old is addicted to the "WHO WAS" series of books. They are very informative and include some pictures which make learning about historical characters, scientists, writers, etc.. fun for kids. When he went through all the ones the library carried, we turned to Amazon to start finding the rest. He can't put them down and I'll be saving them for his little brother.

I never thought I could get my child interested in Shakespeare, but I have. *grins* The "Who Was" series of books have all been wonderful so far. The Shakespeare book even included a great vocabulary list, which I appreciated for our homeschool lessons. We also watched the sweet cartoon "Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss" and are reading the Wishbone version of Romeo & Juliet. Haydn now recognizes and points out Shakespeare all over the place. This is a great purchase.

Everything you need to know about Shakespeare, his life and times is put forth in this first-rate juvenile biography. Since little is known about Will Shakespeare, why waste time reading a lot of speculation? It is a marvel how Celeste Davidson Mannis creates many interesting asides in so short a space, including words and phrases that were coined by the Bard, an explanation of blank verse, what school was like, the politics of the time, big city London, and how the Globe Theatre came about. An abundance of B&W illustrations helps the reluctant reader along, but this is a worthy effort for any age reader who wants to know all there is to know about Shakespeare in a nutshell. Includes Bibliography, a timeline of Shakespeare's life, and a timeline of the world matching Shakespeare's dates.

I bought this book for my grandson, age 13. He is appearing in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S
DREAM at a local theatre, and wanted to know more about W.S. I think the book gives
enough information to satisfy a young actor's curiosity.
