I rated this story 4 out of 5 stars. I had a hard time with this story initially. It felt very slow paced to me and I had a hard time staying connected to the characters. Once you realize the chemistry between the two and the backstory has unfolded, it moves much faster. I probably would have connected more with the main character had I been a mom in my opinion. I always seem to struggle more connecting with character with children because I can’t relate to it.
I however did particular enjoy Chad’s backstory because I am a Nashville native. Chad moved to Nashville to pursue his career in music and I actually work in the music industry. So I stayed drawn to him most of the story. There was so much emotion for Katie that she’s been through and everything just broke my heart. Seeing Chad help pick up the pieces was so heart-warming.
This story is book one in the series. It left on a cliff hanger in terms of, no way the book just ended that way. This is also another reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. I am always hopeful for certain types of endings, but overall I liked the book. I can’t wait to read the 2nd book in this series and even more from this author.
I suggest this as a good read, and look forward to further books by this author.
Who I am With You is a story about getting a second chance at love. Chad and Katie have both been hurt. Chad's wife left him for another man, and Katie's fiance left her (and their son) after her father died. The book starts out with an emotional punch with Chad's wife leaving him. It pulled me in, but somehow, somewhere along the way I lost touch with the characters and I just couldn't feel the book anymore.
Katie is still grieving her father, who died of brain cancer. As a former nurse, she put her life on hold to be his caretaker at his farm. Her fiance, Jay, couldn't handle her grief and the change in her after her tragic loss. Like the jerk he is, he leaves her to take care of the farm (and their son, Mason) on her own. She and Chad meet when he answers her ad for help on the farm. What starts out as a tense employer/employee relationship quickly turns to friendship and love. But there is a catch! Chad has a huge secret that could hurt her even more than she already is.
The bones of the story are there. To some, I'm sure that Who I am With You is a great contemporary romance. To me, it just felt flat. Katie is bitter and hurting. The only time she really lets her guard down is with her son Mason. At first, she came off terse with Chad, which is totally understandable. She felt she had to protect herself and her son from further heartache. Chad is just kind of there to me. He was a nice enough character, but... I don't know. He wasn't anything spectacular. I did love Mason, thought. That kid was my favorite part of the story.
I say this anytime I rate a book low... Try the story out for yourself. If it sounds like something you'd like, give it a whirl. What doesn't work for me, might be something you absolutely love.
