Interesting and informative, but marred by anti-male politics.

Having studied sex differences for years, I found Wolpert's book an accessible collection of what is currently known about the topic. Unfortunately, it is marred by his anti-male/woman as historical victim stance. His base premise is that Female is Nature's default position, while Male is a second rate variation. Sorry, Prof--Nature's default position is Hermaphrodite. He frequently equates woman = empathy and man = testosterone = aggression to make a case for why men have treated women shabbily throughout much of known history while glossing over female-type emotional and social aggression; and never mentions the abuse empathetic women deal out to children (30+% of child molestations, and 61% of child abuse by mothers ) as well as to their men (a 2009 study found women now commit twice as much domestic violence as do men). He should have stuck to the biology and left out the politics.

Awful book, couldn't even finish it. Full of sexism and his own scientific agenda. He uses scientific studies (and surveys in the same vein) to support common gender stereotypes but any time science or 'personal interest surveys' contest his bias he points out the questionability of the data.... Do it the whole way through or don't call your self a scientist.

It also dosnt contain any new or even recient scientific research or gender and most nothing or anything that questions our current gender and sex stereotypes.
