(As an editor at Reader's Digest, I eventually met author Rudolph Flesch. He told me that the real "Johnny" was a boy next door named Winston -- but of course "Why Winston Can't Read" would have been a less fetching title -- particularly since, when the book was first published, R.J. Reynolds had recently launched its talkable "Winston Tastes Good, Like a Cigarette Should" TV ad campaign.)
