Why Mommy is a Democrat Paperback – January 1, 2006
Why Mommy is a Democrat may look like a traditional children's book, but it definitely isn't just for children. With numerous subtle (and not-so-subtle) satirical swipes at the Bush administration and the Republican party, the book will appeal to Democrats of all ages.

I do not talk politics on line, but think you can tell by the purchase :)
And, you'd think after eleven different instructive situations with the poor slob in the background suffering, that Mommy Squirrel might do something to help him, but she doesn't even notice him. Ironically, on the very last page that poor guy is sitting under a tree with a voter registration form. I wonder if he'll register as a Democrat now that he's seen Mommy Squirrel ignore him on eleven different occasions when he was in need.
But there's more:
"Democrats make sure everyone is treated fairly, just like Mommy does." Well, that explains why Democratic leaders want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. It all makes sense to me now.
"Democrats make sure everyone plays by the rules, just like Mommy does."
What about the spider whose home is being used for a volleyball net? What happens when that ball hits the net? No more home for Mr. Spider! Maybe Mommy Democrat had the city use public domain laws to take Mr. Spider's home for use as a volleyball net, because no sane spider would consent to that.
"Democrats make sure no one fights, just like Mommy does." Well, not since we've had a Republican president, anyway. Was it a Democrat who bombed Serbia? Was it a Democrat that got us into Vietnam? Say it isn't so, Mommy! Say it isn't so!
"Democrats make sure we are nice to people who are different, just like Mommy does." Ah yes, a Democrat can be any ethnicity or gender or sexual preference, as long as they are a Democrat. Have a different world view maybe? Then Democrats can be as mean to you as anyone else can.
Finally, maybe the shipping should be left to the Republicans. The very person who created this book couldn't package it in such a way as to prevent damage, as mine arrived crammed into an envelope just slightly larger than the book, with no padding, so the upper right corner was smashed. No, I do not want a replacement. I got my laugh.
Postscript: A sequel to this book called "Why Daddy is a Democrat" has been published. So now there's something for the dads out there too!
In American politics, the Democrats emphasize things such as health care and fairness, while the Republicans emphasize things such as lower taxes and freedom to do whatever. It doesn't make sense to criticize this book for putting the Democratic Party in a positive light, since that's its purpose. If you don't want to read that, don't buy this book.
Some reviewers obviously disagree with Democratic values, and politically that is their right; however, that has nothing to do with the quality (or otherwise) of this book. You would not expect a child's book on the Bible to promote anti-Christian values or a child's book on evolution to promote creationism, so why would you expect a child's book on the Democrats to promote Republican values?
If some Republican wants to write a book "Why Mommy Is A Republican" then fine, let them (...maybe someone has.) But it's just silly to expect THIS book to be THAT book.
