Format: Audio CD
Wynonna (daughter) and Naomi (mother) began their career with a six-track mini-album but this full-length follow-up (including one of the six earlier tracks, Mama he's crazy) was the one that gave them their breakthrough. It features four major country hits - Mama he's crazy, Why not me, Love is alive and Girls night out - together with six other excellent songs including a couple of covers - Endless sleep, My baby's gone - of songs from the fifties.

When I first bought this on vinyl, I played it a lot. Although the style is simple with few instruments, it was (and still remains) fresh and exciting, unmistakeable for anybody else's music. I later realized that one of the features that set this album apart was the prominent use of a dobro - an instrument that traditional country and bluegrass fans are reasonably familiar with, but which is not used as often as it might be. Of course, the excellent mother-and-daughter harmonies and the high quality songs also help to make this album a classic. Apart from a dobro, the only instruments used are buss, drums, piano, steel, harmonica and guitars.

With this album, the Judds became major country music stars. Subsequent albums were also of a high quality, but this remains my favorite original Judds album.

I can't think of a reason you shouldn't buy this CD. This mother/daughter duo is simply beautiful and their sounds are outstanding as well. The title cut is reason enough to own this collection of early hits. It is such a powerful plea to quell the loneliness - such wonderful harmony and blending of the voices. I also really enjoy Endless Sleep. I first heard that 45 years ago performed by a blues band - it was haunting then and The Judds' version does it justice. Highly recommended! Why Not Me

The first time I heard the song Why Not Me it caught me totally by surprise. I heard it on the car radio. And before it was over with I was just about already singing along with it. The only song The Judds had was Mama He's Crazy. Which I didn't like. And I was kind of pre determined I wasn't going to like them. I bought this cd when it first came out. Then bought every thing else they did too. The hits on here were Why Not Me, Girls Night Out, Love Is Alive, which is a great love song. And Mama He's Crazy. Which they pulled off of their first six song mini album. I think Mr. Pain, Drops Of Water, My Baby's Gone, Bye Bye Baby Blues all could have been hits also. Endless Sleep and Sleeping Heart are the other two songs. And they are almost as good.

This is the album that pretty much jump-started the Judds' career. Previously, they had released a mini-LP simply titled "The Judds," however "Why Not Me" is the Judds' first full-length recording.
This album includes some really great tracks...Especially the title track "Why Not Me" and the gorgeous "Love Is Alive." But the lesser known songs "Endless Sleep" and "Mr. Pain" are also great additions and like every Judds CD, ALL the songs are great..even the ones that weren't released as singles.
This album proved to be only the beginning for the Judds as it scored them their first #1 song "Mama He's Crazy."

This is the album where the Judds started it all! Many of their signature songs are on this album such as Why Not Me, Girls Night Out, Love Is Alive and Mama He's Crazy. Even though I love this album, I found the song, Bye Bye Baby Blues, to be a sleeper. Everything else works with me! This album, ofcourse, is probably not as polished as their work became as the years went by but it's the songs on this album that stapled the Judds into country music.

I have been a fan of the Judds since Day 1, and I have to say of all their releases, there are only two that I still listen to frequently, even here in the year 2003: "Why Not Me" and their debut-mini CD "The Judds". Both of these releases capture the pure harmonies and beautiful acoustic sound of the Judds. I have always considered "Why Not Me" an acoustical masterpiece; Don Potter's proficient acoustical guitar wizardry along with Wy's guitar playing created some of the best acoustical arrangements in country music. The song "Why Not Me" best shows off these arrangements (and it also provides to country music the first song ever recorded to have a back-beat). "Mr. Pain" and "Drops of Water" are other acoustical gems. "Girls Night Out", a big hit of theirs, is another complex arrangement by Wy and Don Potter. Possibly one of the most beloved songs of theirs, "Love is Alive", heavenly harmonies grace a beautifully conceived acoustical arrangement. "Endless Sleep" is a real treat and of course, rounding out the release is "Mama He's Crazy", which was also on their debut release. If you have enjoyed the rich harmonies of the Judds and you love acoustical music, this is your release to buy. This CD was a gem back in its day and it still remains a big favorite of mine.
