In chapter one 'The Church vs The World'he shows how the postmodern worldview has influenced the Church. The author asserts that Postmodernism is the dominant worldview in academic circles and is diametrically opposed to the Christian worldview.Throughout the history of 'The Church'it has been the exclusive claim of 'Biblical Chrisitanity'that Christ is the only saviour and only through(His person and work on an individuals behalf)can anyone come to know the one true and living God.Postmodern philosophy cannot live with that claim because they believe that there is no absoulute, objective and universal truth.
Their belief in that regard is a direct assault on the clear teaching of the Scriptures(John 14:6 Jesus said "I am the way ,the truth, and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me."). Postmodern philosophy is just another frontal attack on the Inspiration,Authority and inerrancy of the Bible(no doubt a favorite target of 'the prince of this world',though he loves to dress it up in different garb).
In the chapter entitled Objectivity the author exposes how irrational postmodernist thinking can be: on p.20 is an example of this "what I believe is valid for me;and whatever you believe is equally valid for you.And thus we can affirm each others religions ,even if our beliefs flatly contradict one another."You can only buy into such nonsense if you believe truth is subjective(not objective).
In the chapter 'Veracity'Pastor Macarthur emphasizes the importance of truth as the believer relates to the philosophies of this world.Believers are called to defend the truth against error and the standard by which all truth claims must be measured is 'The Word Of God".If they speak not according to 'His Word'it is because there is no light in them.
Why One Way is an important book for this generation of 'the Lord's people' because the pressure to conform to the world's thinking in this area has intensified in recent years. May the Lord be pleased to grant a wider hearing to this work.
