I especially enjoyed the Appendices, where he succinctly outlines the history of the Jihadist movement and how each former leader or writer developed the building blocks that lead to radicalization of desperate young people. A most comprehensive study into the reasons that we fight! The reasons that pride, fear and hatred motivate our enemies more than cost-benefit analysis are delved into deeply.

The author provides excellent in-depth studies in many areas including how propaganda has changed throughout the years. Clausewitz is mentioned frequently and one quote that I thought was pertinent today is ' All war is a battle of wills'.

The Truman Doctrine as well as President Reagan's accomplishments are explained in detail. Who can forget hearing President Reagan in November of 1989 saying '..tear down this wall'.

We, as a nation, need to understand our enemies including their long -term objectives. What threats do we have at home and abroad and do we have the right tools to defeat them?

ISIS and the jihadis are also discussed in great detail and there are some real eye openers in this section.

The last portion is a lengthy interview between the author and Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report which covers this book, President Trump, and the future of conservative thoughts.

As a nation, we have to prepare for irregular warfare....including cyber attacks. And, we also must understand our enemies better including their strategic goals, weaknesses and strengths. Threats abound and not just from ISIS and the jihadists.

As a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer, I appreciated the addition of several American Warriors. Heroes....each and every one of them.

I suppose it’s not a coincidence that the title recalls Frank Capra’s film, “Why We Fight”, which was more centered upon the prominent existential evils of the mid-20th century, Nazism and communism, with which “radical” Islam shares many dehumanizing attributes. The kindle version could use a bit of proofreading, though. For instance, in the story of Red McDaniel, the “sam” should be all-caps and it didn’t “denote” between his plane and that of his wingman, it detonated. There were about a dozen such other odd little glitches that may not be present in the print version. Still, pretty economical tuition for a good mini-course.

I knew from seeing him on TV that Sebastian Gorka was a bright man. I knew the way the Left disparaged him that he must have some good stuff. I was not mistaken. The book is well written offering a strategic perspective on what is happening in our country, tied in with interesting lessons from history. He also uses three or four examples of people who represent what is right with America and how we can learn from their example. Until the last chapter or two, this was a 5 Star book. Where it falls short in my opinion is in practical answers for Americans. It says that is why the book is written and he nails it regarding what we can do as a nation but as a citizen seeing my country destroyed I didn't get the solutions promised.
