Good unit for small spaces

This is my second time purchasing this same portable air conditioner. It's worked well over the last year in my bedroom, so I decided to buy another one this year to use in my living room. Overall it has performed well, and the evaporation system works extremely well as every time I've checked to see if it needs to be emptied, there's never been any water to dump. I know a lot of other posters commented that the plastic window piece is too flimsy, but I don't find this to be the case. However, I do wish the hose connected better to the plastic pieces. For the one in my living room, I resorted to using tape to attach the hose to the plastic pieces. A few things to keep in mind. This will not cool down a large space, it works best in smaller rooms, and it is pretty loud. If you are a light sleeper, the clicking on and off of the compressor might be bothersome. I am used to sleeping with a fan on year round, so the noise doesn't bother me.

We purchased this after dealing with a week of 90+F weather in Washington. Sleeping was unbearable at night as the temperature wouldn't drop until nearly 2 in the morning. My fiancee has incredibly bad asthma and reactive airway disease. She can't breathe in the heat (I know for some people dry heat works better, but cold definitely is the best for her). It was imperative that we got some sort of cooling unit urgently. We did some research and searched around for the best deal and the best product. When I came across this one, I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm so glad we did. It works incredibly well, and cools an entire floor of our house (we've had it upstairs in the main living area, and downstairs in our bedroom/office area). I'm so happy with this unit that I've actually ordered a second one so that I can keep one upstairs and one downstairs all the time and not have to mess with moving them about.

The one negative thing I will say, and it's probably true of all portable units like this, is that the hose is a pain in the butt to connect to the unit and the window. You have to screw the hose onto the connector that goes into the unit and it doesn't want to do it. Several times I thought I finally had it and it ended up popping off. Frustrating.

It is easy to drain of water (and comes with a hose if you want a permanent drain). The other thing I really liked about this is that it can be a dehumidifier. Not really an issue right now as we haven't had rain in three weeks, but at some point it could come in handy.

If I can do this, anyone can! The product was delivered to my front porch. I cut the sides of the boxes down and pulled it into my bedroom. I READ the instructions :) While I was concerned when I realized that the rigid window slide partially blocked the exhaust, it was surprisingly easy to cut out the outline of the exhaust opening with a small hand saw. It keeps my bedroom and bath a comfortable 78 degrees. As for the noise level, it doesn't make anymore noise than the portable fan that I was using. It was way less expensive than replacing my central a/c unit!

Great choice for a portable ac.

I have purchased 2 portable ac units. The other is a 12000 BTU Haier, and I like it too. I like this one better.
The airflow is not all that different that I can tell, but the Haier is much larger. Both produce about the same amount of noise.
For me the biggest difference is the remote. The remote for this Whynter has a backlit LED screen so you can see what you are doing right in your hand. where the other has only buttons, no led screen, and you must look at the unit itself to see what's being changed. My eyes are not the best, and often I change settings when I'm in bed, so it is a big help to just point the remote and see whats going on, instead of having to move closer to the ac unit to assure I'm making the correct changes.
The remote for the Whynter also can control the angle of airflow, whether the air is directed out in a horizontal or vertical direction. The Haier requires a manual adjustment.
I like this unit, and would purchase it again

25' by 40' space was kept cool, approx

This 10,000 BTU unit cooled my parents living room to 72 degrees, after using the oven for 2 to 3 hours, and a heavy dose of summer sun exposure on the southwest side of the house. 25' by 40' space was kept cool, approx. 72 to 74 degrees with an outside temperature of 98 degrees (Fahrenheit) while the oven was used for a few hours. Start the unit early in the day so you do not have to start hot and slowly work down to a comfortable temperature. Great product, easy set up for anyone, worth the price.

Just not as cold as I was anticipating. I bought this for my master bedroom because I sleep better when it's cooler and I actually like the white noise(it is pretty loud) when I sleep. I work 12 hour nights as a nurse so I have all my curtains blacked out and want a cold room. I have mine set as low as it can go, it's cool but not cold. I would say my car gets colder to be honest. I keep my house set to 76, with this blowing in my room I anticipated being able to keep it pretty cold in my room. My room is a little cooler than the rest of the house so it's not like it doesn't help but I probably should have just bought a window unit.

Long term disappointment of its output.

We have owner unit since December of 2016. We are using in a 180 sq. ft. room. It is is 90 degrees outside and can only get our room down to 82 degrees after running it for seven hours on High. Our windows are covered with thermal curtains, all of our windows are of course closed. It seems to be releasing as much heat back into the room from the vent hose as it is cooling from the front.
The cooled air is 55 degrees, . The first two years it did seem to work “ okay”. For as much it costs we wouldn’t buy another one.
We have even insulated the exhaust tube. Ugh.
