There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I received the unit on March 6. Set up wasn't a problem. I immediately noticed the air isn't directional. It shoots straight up which was annoying, but I have box fans to move the air where I want it. The air was cool but not frigid like I hoped. I expected more ,but thought "this will do."
I'd used the unit intermittently without any real issues - until around a week ago. The unit began cool for the first minute or 2 and warmed up. This got progressively worse and now the unit is essentially useless. It moves a lot of air but it's HOT air.
Ofcourse I did some trouble shooting. Hoses and filter were unobstructed, setting was correct, desired temp setting was where it needed to be, etc. All correct.
My return time with Amazon had expired so I called the manufacturer. Customer service was very friendly and wanted to help by emailing trouble shooting tips etc. When I asked how long it was covered by warranty she told me the full warranty expired after 2 months. Now I have a "limited warranty" till a year after purchase. That ofcourse means money out of my pocket for shipping to and fro as well as whatever other bogus fee they make up.
So to sum it up, I have a $400 paperweight that actually heats my house better then it cools it. Quality control is all over the place and they know it otherwise their warranty would last a lot longer then 2 months. A full 2 month warranty sounds absolutely ridiculous. Recent customer reviews also reflect a problem with quality control.
Frankly, this is one of the worst purchases I've ever made. I do not recommend it. If you do decide to purchase this product do so with an extended warranty from the vender (If possible.) It got 1 star because I had to give it something to post a review.
Give the Honeywell 12mn's a try.
I specifically ordered a 14,000 btu unit because I need the extra cooling power.
My last unit was only 12,000 btu and it worked pretty good, but I wanted to take it to the next level from pretty good.
Did I mention that this thing sucks?
IN A 550 Sq. Ft. Condo on a 75 degree day, it couldn't keep the temp below 75 degrees!?!?
It never actually blows cold air, just cool air,and yes I let it sit for a day after receiving it to let the freon settle. This thing sucks! It sucks, it sucks, it sucks! $452 worth of suckiness. Don't buy it!
I wish I hadn't.
We had to cut out some Styrofoam to obtain the custom window fit we needed and also used window sealant to weatherstrip the small openings, but otherwise it was good to go.
Bottom line? The unit delivers very cold, clean and filtered air conditioning in spades. We set the cooling thermostat at a very comfy 72 degrees. The unit had no problem reaching and maintaining this level, while also being relatively quiet in medium speed.
Our living room and kitchen area was quite enjoyable and comfortable throughout the afternoon, while the outside was baking big time at an unseasonably hot 95 here in San Francisco on September 13th, 2019!!
Overall , thus far, we are quite pleased with the unit's performance. The Whynter 14,000 BTU AC unit delivered as advertised. We attached a few pictures of our unit in operation. Best regards.
Received unit. Per others suggestions, I made my own window insert out of 3/4" plywood with the holes further separated. I then used window foam sealer to fill the gaps to the window frame and I caulked around the holes cut for the hose inserts to the plywood to be airtight to inserts. I covered the hoses with insulated hose covers from home depot, and fitted an filter in the air intake from outside. Whynter provided a carbon filter for the air intake going into condenser from inside air which is exceptionally thin and folded in half. At first I thought I only got half a filter till I realized it was folded. So, unfolded and inserted. Unit ran flawlessly first few nights keeping room cool.
Updated review after day 3:
Purchased Whynter air intake filter which clips into the unit before the air intake hose and provides an added screen. This is when I realized the clip in areas allow air leaks. No biggie on air intake but air removal then puts heated air into the flow of air going through carbon filter and being used for room cooling. A little bit of duct tape solved the problem. With these mods units is solid, quiet and fully efficient. I was previously trying an LG single hose unit from the Orange Big Box Store (name omitted) and there is a big difference. This unit cools room quicker, is more quiet and kicks on the condenser less since it is using only inside air to recirculate through coils rather than pulling all the air in and pushing half outside causing room to need air replenish from other hot rooms of house which are warmer. Highly recommend. Can upload pics of mods if I get and replies that request it but they are straightforward. Thanks

I've been using it for a few weeks now and I LOVE it. I'm seriously considering getting married to this AC. It's one of my favorite thing I bought this year so far.
I was a little worried since I like to look at the stuff I buy, try them in the store and stuff like that, mostly on expensive stuff. And since it's heavy, I didn't know how it would work to return it if there was an issue with it. Also had very bad luck with portable AC in the past. But this one is awesome. The dual hose make it so that you don't loose as much BTU power as with other portable AC. It's very easy to put together, and I didn't even really sealed the area around the smaller slider thingy because I cannot be bother about it, but it still works like a charm nonetheless. And we've been having some heat wave lately, but I feel fine and cool.
I mostly let the AC in my by bedroom, and even then, with a fan, I can redirect easily the cold air in the whole apartment. The apartment is ~620 squart feet, I have 9 feet ceilling. I mostly close the bathroom and the hall though, the hall is maybe 12 square feet (very small) and the bathroom around 45 square feet (anyway, once the bathroom is cool, it stays that way for a long while). My previous AC couldn't cool down more than ~350 square feet.
Also, I love the fact that it can go lower than 64 F, even thoug the room feels a little hotter than that, it's still very nice and cool for me. So you really don't loose much BTU even if it's a portable AC.
As for the noise, it's perfect for me. The cooling device makes as much noise and the fan made on my previous AC. So I sometimes wonder if it's working properly because I think it's only the fan when it's the cooling mode that is full on. And I always put the fan at the highest power too. Also, for me, it's good that it at least makes a little noise because it works as white noise when I sleep, so I don't have to hear the neighbors.
The only thing I'm still worried about it the draining, but so far, I didn't have to do it. Thing is, the plastic plug that is on the draining hose on the unit is very very hard to open. Will see when it comes to that, and if I have issue with it, I'll come update this review.
TL;DR : buy this portable AC, it's a marvelous device, 10/10 would buy it again
