DESERT ISLE KEEPER!  "Eva is every bit as smart, dangerous, and difficult as Lucien; it's Machiavelli meets Lucrezia Borgia, and the sparks they do fly!  -- M. Novak, All About Romance

"Lucien is ... a prototype for Mary Balogh's Wulfric Bedwyn ... cold, studiously polite, and unapproachable.  Though Balogh refines the character and makes him her own, Lucien was there first."                                                 -- Blythe Barnhill, All About Romance

"Provocative and passionate!"  -- Lisa Kleypas, NYT Bestselling Author

FIVE STARS!  "Talk about fireworks!  The end to the de Montforte series is one dramatic finish that is NOT to be missed!"   -- M. Friedman, Romance Crush Junkies Reviews

FIVE STARS!  "Wickedly delightful as the Duke meets his match in the fiery independent Eva!"
                                                                                -- H. Klausner

FOUR STARS!  "The grand manipulator gets his comeuppance when he meets independent American patriot Eva de la Mouriere. . .  Meddling has its price, as Lucien discovers, and fans of the series will be more than satisfied to see him get just what he deserves! Harmon's delightful sense of humor, marvelous characters and true understanding of the ties that bind a family turn THE WICKED ONE into the perfect, well-crafted conclusion to her series!  -- K. Robin, Romantic Times

"Harmon once again delivers non-stop action and romance ... one would have thought that such a like-minded couple would never work but talented Harmon makes it so. Recommended for anyone who loves to read romance, especially those on the steamier side."  -- Veronica, A Romance Review

"You are making a mess of my heart." So says Lucien, Duke of Blackheath, to the woman who is his equal in more ways than one, Eva de la Mouriére. It could also be a line in a message from me to the author, as Ms. Harmon brings the de Monteforte series to an extraordinary close in THE WICKED ONE. Lucien is certainly wicked, all right, and in one of the most sizzling love scenes I've ever read, I discover not only the sexy side to the duke's wickedness, but find myself privy to events that will shape the lives of all involved forever.
Don't look for humor because this tale takes a deeper look into Lucien's psyche and the events that stole his childhood and shaped him into a formidable force to be reckoned with. The author has gotten into his head perfectly, into the whys and wherefores behind what he's done as head of the family, the burden he's had, how he honestly thought he did the right thing. While I found that I did not agree with his methods of seeing to the welfare of this siblings and Eva, after reading his story I now understand the motives. However, good intentions have a way of coming back to haunt us and in Lucien's last machinations, he finds this out the hard way, for underneath his cool facade is man who can't bear to think his little sister or his wife may hate him forever. In one particular scene, his sister, Nerissa, takes out her full fury on him and while I felt she had every reason to say the things she did, reading his inner reaction to her statements brought me to tears.
The only thing I felt the story needed was for Luciens' siblings to understand fully the whys of his actions. So they, like the reader, would have a clear understanding of the man behind the dukedom.

This book has absolutely some of the most sensuous sex scenes I have ever read. You can see the sparks fly when Lucien and Eve are together.
Eve has encountered two of Lucien's brothers before when she attempted to steal an aphrodisiac which Andrew, Lucien's inventor brother, has invented. Unbeknown to Eve Lucien has switched said aphrodisiac with a fake one, which, when utilized by the King gives him a bad case of diarrhea. Eve encounters Lucien when she attempts to steal the real aphrodisiac and she escapes. Lucien, not to be topped, goes to France and seeks out Eve who with cunning ties him, feeds him the drug and has rousing sex with Lucien; however, Lucien escapes taking the drug with him. Eve is exiled from France and takes refuge at Andrew's home.
While visiting at Andrew's home, Eve discovers she is pregnant, discloses this to Andrew's wife, and the fun begins. Lucien, who has controlled all of his siblings lives, becomes prey to his siblings for revenge. Lucien's manipulations has also caused his sister's almost bethroted to be captured by the French while on his way to claim an inheritence in Spain. Neesa, Lucien's sister, finds out about Lucien's manipulations and is devastated and refuses to speak with Lucien.
Eve, a widow, who has been manipulated by men all of her life, does not trust men at all. Her emotions are raised each time she encounters Lucien, but she is afraid to trust him. Eve and Lucien finally wed, have a great wedding night (oh boy)but everything falls apart when Lucien informs her that he has seen his solicitor and decreed that should something happen to Lucien she cannot take the expected baby out of England. This infuriates Eve and she leaves by coach in a snow/sleet storm. There is an accident and the plot thickens.
A very good sensuous read.

Having received the first book in this series free, and finding it enjoyable, I ordered and paid-for the following 3. I found that book 2 was just as enjoyable as the first, but the third left me a bit cold and now I cannot even finish the 4th. I rarely write reviews as I'm not always sure what to say, different people like different things, and I don't like to give away "spoilers", but I felt I needed to write now.

I must disagree with all the "OMG, it's wonderful" reviews. Those individuals may have found the book to be very good, but I couldn't get past the power-struggles between the two central characters, nor did I find much "story" in the 6+ chapters of sexual inuendos, and domination. Admittedly, the reviewers that stated there were "fireworks" were absolutely correct, but fireworks can burn and I definitely felt burned by this book.

It's entirely possible that the book may have "redeemed" itself as it continued, but I read for enjoyment and entertainment. Participating vicariously in a "who can out do" each other in and out of the bedroom is flat exhausting and in no- way, to my way of thinking, entertaining or enjoyable. If it was the author's intent to make her readers hate her central charaters, then she certainly succeeded with this reader.

this was the last in a series about 4 brothers & 1 sister . it is interesting how the author weaves the stories together. Each book is the story told from the different perspectives of the siblings. Any one from a large family may relate to how each one views similar events from various views & influences. Historically the family lives at the time of the American revolution & between wars with France. lives really can't be lived without the influence of world affairs having different effects on individuals. These stories feature how individuals influence each other & the importance of family.
