I appreciate the opportunity to explore authors I'm not familiar with, so I've downloaded lots of free books. Most I don't finish. A few I've finished and forgotten.
HOWEVER, Wickedly Charming draws you into the story and intrigues you into continuing reading. Even as I noted the author using every romance trope in the book, I still couldn't put it down. Her characters are compelling enough to overcome the silliness of putting Prince Charming and Snow White's stepmother in modern day L.A.
Pure cotton candy: a sweet, ephemeral, irresistible treat. If you like sweet romances, or even if you don't but enjoyed fairy tales once upon a time, you'll have fun reading Wickedly Charming.

This story was just too silly and unbelievable. Mellie's character seemed to be unadjusted to the real world. I often thought if I met her character I would be a little scared of her because she seemed crazy.
I also thought it would take the same premise as the first novel, Utterly Charming, which had the characters living on our world, not some fantasy world that you used portals to go though to get to our world. I guess some of my disappointment is in the fact I had some preconceived notions of what the book should be like.
The romance was very light, this is definitely not a steamy romance novel.
I know that there are supposed to be more re-releases in this series, I don't know how many, I look forward to reading them even thought this one was a bit of a dud.

This book gives us a great twist on happily-ever-after & how people are not always who we think they are! I loved how Charming wanted to live out of the Kingdoms - out of the spotlight, preferring instead to hang out in the background & simply be Dave. Also, since I'm both a Daddy's girl & tend to be attracted to the bookish guys myself, that made him that much more Charming to me! I loved how Mellie had both a feisty side & a vulnerable side. She fought for a cause that she believed in 100% while she secretly held onto the pain of her step-daughter's hatred & lies (her motherly love told her that Snow would never believe the truth & she was the only one who truly mattered). You can feel her passion, & when the truth behind her story is revealed, you feel her pain. Even though I am a huge fan of both Ella & Snow, the author did a fantastic job of making me want to find the nearest portal to the Kingdoms so I could give them a piece of my mind! It's so fun to be that caught up in the stories you read! There is so much about this book that I enjoyed, & I could writes pages, but I'll just call up one of my girlfriends & tell her all about this must-read, & leave it up to you to read this "Wickedly Charming" tale for yourself.
**Dear Author, thanks for the story! I sincerely hope there is more to come for Charming & Mellie. I'd love to see how things go between Mellie & her future step-daughters. Mellie deserves to finally get her happily-ever-after with both her prince & "their" girls. See, I've got it all figured out in my head, but I'd love to read your version! =)
For me the story started out slow. I really didn't understand where it was headed, but I stuck with it and I strongly suggest you do as well if you decide to step into the Greater World with Dave and Mellie. I was consistently amazed at how clever the author was in telling her story and using the fairy tale elements. I also thoroughly enjoyed peeping into the world of book publishing she provided. Finally, I really liked how the characters came to life for me.
Those potholes? I would have preferred an ending that didn't wrap up like a word count had been met. There was so much more story there that should have been developed, especially if far fewer words had been spent on the angst the characters repeatedly expressed about their relationship and situation (this was my one other, major pothole).
I got the book for free on my Kindle, am purchasing a paperback copy for a non-kindling friend that wants to read it, and will look up more from this author. It was so refreshing to read something "different" when it came to a romance.
