These socks are comfortable, fit very well and wear like iron.
Socks arrived on time, fit was perfect and did their job well.
That said, they're comfortable and warm, and fit well, with no pain along the toe line.

While the product might be slightly different now, I'm writing this as I sit here in the Ultimax socks I purchased 15 years ago. Don't worry, I'm wearing more than just my socks. It's not one of those reviews.

I've worn the socks at least once a week in that time, and have worn them in the Australian bush, snowboarding, on the Inca Trail and fell walking. This morning the elastic finally went in the top of one of the socks, so I fear they will be retired soon. Having said that, they show no sign of wear on the toes or sole.

I remember paying about GBP20 for these in 1997 just before a visit to Sri Lanka. My then wife choked on how much I'd spent on "just a pair of socks". I'm now on my second wife, and I can safely say that these socks were one of my most sound financial investments of the last decade and a half.

Oh, and by the way, I lied. I am just wearing a pair of socks.

I bought two pair of these socks from REI a few years ago, one gray heather and one dark khaki. They were so comfortable that I bought two backup pairs, in case they became unavailable later. The backups are still in the original packages, because the first two pairs refuse to wear out. They've been worn and washed countless times, and they still show almost no wear. They don't pill, either. I use these socks mostly as casual socks and for 2-4 mile outdoor walks; for hiking and serious outdoor activity that requires a hiking boot, I prefer a slightly thicker sock with a wicking liner. However, I've hiked in these socks, and they're fine. I wear the socks without shoes around the house, which is usually a death sentence for the sole, but not with these Ultimax socks. The socks wick well, and the inner loops provide a very comfortable cushion. These socks are a superior product and well worth the price.

Well, I received my pair of wool socks on 11/4. I am a size 10 and ordered the large pair. I read on another review that these can be a little small and they are not true to size. I can see how that maybe true if you have bigger feet than me and ordered the large pair. I recommend anyone buying a pair of these in large to consider buying the extra large pair since these are slightly tight on me and I am a size 10. Anything above a size 10 and these large socks will be really tight. Hope this helps.

Keeping blisters away is a must for long distance hikers. Wore these socks for 200 miles on the Camino in Spain and not a single blister. They worked very good at taking the sweat from my feet and wicking it away from the skin. I would not hestiate to buy again.

Have worn these socks the last few weekends turkey hunting in the north Georgia mountains. Kept my feet feeling great, even going from 40s in the morning to 70s during the day.

These are nice midweight socks that I use with my fall and winter boots. I wanted ones with no wool and these are one of the few like that around. Recommend them.

I first bought three pairs of these socks in 1997, and I still wear them! I have never had any article of clothing that has shown so little wear for the many hundreds if not a thousand plus miles I've put on these socks. I'm an avid hiker, sometimes product tester (hiking shoes), and just love these "Ultiwear" socks the Wigwam chooses to call: "Ultimax".Wigwam Men's Cool-Lite Hiker Pro Crew Length SockWigwam Men's Cool-Lite Mid Hiker Pro Quarter Length Sock

The stitching started coming loose in the toe the first day. When I removed these socks after only one day of wear there was a hole in the toe stitching. You can imagine my disappointment after paying almost $12.00 for one pair of socks and only getting one day of wear. I did not even get to try them hiking. This was just a day at work.

Does anyone know a good hiking sock manufacture?

    UPDATE 6/29/2013
Sent the first pair back. Of course I had to pay for return shipping. I now have over $14.00 in this pair of socks. Received new pair from return. The first time they were washed the entire toe stitching came out. This company really has a problem. I would not order their socks until they get the quality issue straightened out.

I will send this the second pair back, stay tuned.
