TIP--Order more than you need, and return the broken ones! In order to get five good ones, I ended up ordering 8-10--Amazon does not pack these in any kind of protective packaging despite their glass liner. I finally started ordering 2 or 3 at a time, out of which 1 or 2 would always arrive with the glass shattered. When you take it out of the box, check the glass liner to make sure it's intact. Also unscrew (by hand) the base of the airpot to check it further--one of mine that arrived appeared to be fine and held water, but the outer layer of the double-wall glass was still broken; and only visible by unscrewing the base.
Update..... after 20 1/2 hours and with half the water left this morning, the temp of the water inside the air-pot was 138 degrees. It wasn't warm but hot when you drank it. I didn't understand why some reviews said it doesn't keep the water hot after a 2- 4 hours so I did another test this morning. I did the same as before and filled it with boiling water. The temp of the water was 204. This time I left the air-pot outside on my deck and the outside temp was 19 degrees at 8:30am. 4 hours later at 12:30 the outside temp was 40, the temp of the water was 188. Still very HOT HOT HOT. After 10 hours, outside temp at 34 degrees (avg 10 hours temp was 30 degrees), the water temp was 166 (HOT HOT). After 12 hours, the water temp was 160 (still HOT HOT). Water at 160 degree for on second on your skin is considered scolding. If this doesn't prove the air-pot keeps the water hot for at least 12 hours, I dare anyone who said it doesn't keep water hot to gulp down a 160 degrees cup of water. Their air-pot's glass inner liner must be cracked or they didn't preheat it. You need to open the bottom to see if the exterior glass is cracked not just the inner glass as you can't see it by looking inside the air-pot.
Update........ After 23 hours, the first 3 hours and the last 16 hours in sub freezing temp, the water temp was 132. It was not hot but was very warm. This air-pot did excellent in keeping the water hot. This testing was done with a fill container of water and no water was pumped out. But as with ALL air-pot, as you pump water out, it is displaced with the outside air. So if it is cold outside it will lower the temp inside the air-pot. No air-pot will stay hot if cold air is displacing the pumped out hot water. It's the law of physics. But this air-pot insulates very well with its vacuumed double walled glass inner liner in retaining the heat.
I've been running this coffee club for 7 years. The pump mechanism on these Wilbur Curtis Thermo Pro dispensers is very durable. They far outlast any other brand of dispenser I've ever tried (and I've tried a lot of big name brands). I am not fond of button-pump dispensers. I like levers. The lever on these Wilbur-Curtis dispensers is extra long and quite sturdy. You can easily pump out a large cup of coffee in one quick press of the lever.
FINAL NOTE: These are restaurant quality airpot dispensers. As such, they are hard to find individually. They are usually sold in a case of 6 for about $250. That's more than I need or want to spend for a private coffee club. If you are in that position, be patient and shop around. Search for TLXA2201 and it will help.
I filled it with boiling hot water and 12 hours later the water was still very hot. A good thing since I often have to be up in the middle of the night for work, so this means I can have coffee the second I wake up from a disco nap (which sadly doesn't mean what it did back in my college days) and need to get to work. Even after a full day the water was still somewhere between warm and hot. Not quite hot coffee hot, but just when it's slightly cooler than drinkable temperature.
The one star off is because it is hard to open - the buttons you have to push to release the top for filling don't push easily, especially at first. It will loosen up over time, but it would be nice if it was easier to open the top from the beginning, especially since I also bought one for my mom and she has arthritis. But other than that one issue, this is all pros.
