Brad has been patient with Cathy for the last five years since her divorce, letting her take her time to move on. However, as certain events come to pass he decides he wants more of a commitment in their relationship. Their journey is heart-warming and tense as Cathy has to come to terms with her past and heart. It’s especially hard on her because she’s on the outs with Heather, and Sara has enough stress of her own to deal with at this time. So, she’s more or less on her own to work through the feelings warring in her soul.
Ms. Fasano has a way of weaving wonderful heart-warming stories that never disappoint. Her characters are always well-developed, their dialogue is engaging, and realistic. The setting at Ocean Beach is so breathtakingly described you can feel the ocean breeze, smell the salty air, and almost hear the waves hitting the beach.
I do hope there will be more stories with these characters. They’ve become like friends of my own, and I want to keep track of them. I would love to eat breakfast at the Sunshine Café, spend the night at the Lonely Loon, and enjoy the confections from Sara’s Sweet Shop.
FYI: “Wild Hearts of Summer” is Book three in the Ocean City Boardwalk Series. While this third book could be read as a stand-alone, the reader will have a deeper understanding of all the characters having read this series in order. Ms. Fasano also includes recipes at the end of this story, as she has in the other books of this series. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. Format/Typo Issues: I found no proofing issues.
Cathy has had two friends since childhood, Sara and Heather. But she and Heather are estranged because of something that happened in the past.
This is a story of building love and rebuilding friendships. While it is a stand alone book, reading book 1 and book 2 of the series will provide deeper insight to some of the situations.
As an added bonus, the author has included some of the recipes referred to at the cafe. As a fan of the author, Donna Fasano, I can highly recommend any of her books.
OK, on to the book at hand. This book goes deeper into Cathy's character and why she acts the way she does. There's a lot of soul searching that she goes through when people accuse her of acting a certain way. In the meantime, she's forced to evaluate her relationship with Brad. What does she really want with him? Who is he to her? Is she willing to change anything?
Brad is growing more and more dissatisfied with how things are with Cathy. He's ready to move to a deeper level, but realizes that he's got to tread carefully with her. When he learns that he's inherited a valuable piece of property, Brad is thrilled, but also warry of how Cathy will react. What will be the final catalyst to get her to agree to move their relationship further?
Like the previous books, this one also trudges through some deep water and touches on some very delicate topics. Cathy has had a difficult past and the author explores it with care and honesty.
Also, Cathy's relationship with Heather is revisited and the book picks up where the previous one left off. Will Heather ever forgive Cathy for what happened?
The romance is different in that Brad and Cathy already have an intimate relationship. The focus then is on how Brad wants to develop that relationship and move it in a different direction.
Other themes covered are - abuse / battered women and forgiveness / remorse
Romance - R - some of the scenes were brief, but descriptive.
Language - PG13 - some mild cursing and female upper body parts named and described.
My rating - 4 stars
