That said, I was looking forward to some interesting twists!
Even though, I was initially intimidated by the sheer length of Wild Hunt (486 pages), I can tell you that the story-line is fast-paced and an easy read. As other have said, the story arc does get bogged down in places, but I found this book, overall, to be an enjoyable read with enough action and erotic steam to keep things interesting.
Though I realize that this is Monica's first book - and overall, I enjoyed it - the reason why I gave it three stars is two-fold:
First, there were some interesting characters that were introduced so briefly (Rachel, for one), that the reader isn't given much of chance to get to know them or even care about them, so they become almost stereotypes or caricatures, due to minimal character development. A few times, I found myself wondering why certain people were introduced into the story who seemed entirely unnecessary to furthering the plot in any way, and that was a bit disconcerting.
Secondly, the conclusion of this exciting, action-packed tale seemed rushed and a bit confusing to follow. Occurring the last 20 pages or so, the conclusion was sudden enough to be somewhat jarring. The build-up of tension was well-done, and the pacing of action in the story was good...and then, the brakes get slammed down upon entirely too soon.Read more ›
This book caught my eyes with its interesting premise. I adore mythology and love to read them. Wild Hunt didn't disappoint in that area, although, I found a few of the gods lacking in both accuracy and personality.
Over all it was a good book, the sex scenes were well done and not too descriptive (as some other novels out there). The first 30% of the book is really backstory to the rest of the novel, but after Miriam runs into to Luke aka Loki after she has an established life, that is where the story takes off.
Here are the two reasons I gave three stars instead of four: There were times when I couldn't believe Miriam's reactions to things or her thought processes and her personality seemed really flat at times. Also, the story is paced well, but there were times when Character A would say something to Character B and then the scene would move on without Character B's reaction. They just disappear from the scene. That happened a few times and it left me confused.
***This book contains explicit steamy sex scenes. Mature readers only.***
This book caught my attention right from the prologue. It opens with the Norse god Loki bargaining to have his mortal lover reincarnated after 3,000 years. All I could think was 3,000 years and he still loves her? That is going to make for some major rekindling some time soon.
Then the story opens with Miriam being reborn as a mortal and for the first 30% of the book follows her childhood and teen years growing up with some pretty crap circumstances that were the result of Angraboda's maliciousness towards Miriam's rebirth. Loki always seemed to ensure Miriam's survival from these subtle attacks. Loki had to wait until Miriam was old enough to reintroduce himself to her in this lifetime. Which came at the high school prom. I thought the back story was very well developed if only one sided until his point and really thought the story of Miriam and Loki was about to take off. But to my disappointment, I had to slog through another couple of chapters before Loki and Miriam finally had a chance.
When Miriam goes to a web design conference and bumps into Loki again as an adult the story really begins. It was a fast paced jump into the world of the Norse gods, with Miriam getting to join the hunt with Loki, Odin, Freya and other gods. They have to deal with the ever present threat of Angraboda, hunt lost souls, and get to the rekindling of a long lost love I was waiting for. Which was way more than I was expecting!
I quite enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future. This was a very unique book that jumped into the realm of Norse mythology that was new go me. Even though, it was slow in the middle, the fast paced engaging story found in the second half was totally worth the read. This book was provided by the author through the PNR NaUBA group Author/Exchange.

I liked the story and it was well told. The pacing is a bit slow during the first part of the book, but then picks up.
The erotic scenes were hot and done well. Read more
An entertaining romp between mortal and immortal.
Could use some editing and proofreading but nothing major. Would love to read the next one.
I feel a bit mean only giving this book 3 stars and I will do my best to explain why. I did enjoy the book but I found myself not really liking the characters and therefore not... Read morePublished on February 9, 2014 by Jenny
