Wow...I've always loved Ozzie and looked forward to his story, but this one surpassed even my high expectations. It was so, so good!
Ozzie has not been the same ever since he almost lost his life and his leg a year (or maybe 2...I can't remember) ago. Every day he lives with the lingering pain and knowledge that he's just not going to get back the mobility or ability to operate that he had before. That means he will eventually be asked to leave BKI. An operator who can't go out into the field is a useless operator. He's in mourning, and everyone around him knows it.
In the last year, Sam and Ozzie have developed somewhat of a friendship. She's a reporter who knows there's a story inside BKI beyond the custom motorcycle shop story that they feed everyone else. She's determined, but she also really likes and is drawn to Ozzie. So, when she gets information that condemns the motorcycle club of being criminals, she's devastated...and then feels betrayed especially when she thinks Ozzie is trying to kill her.
The setup of this story was fabulous. Just because of how devastated both Ozzie and Sam are by what they see as betrayal...it's easy to see how close they are, despite the label of just friendship. And then when it becomes apparent that it's not Ozzie Sam has to fear, that's when the story really ramps up.
I loved this one so much. Sam and Ozzie together were fabulous. Most of the rest of the BKI crew were gone...besides the WAG's left behind...and Christian. As a result, there were some of the best bromance scenes I've seen in this series so far between Christian and Ozzie. So many scenes where I was laughing out loud and giggling.
It was just a really good book. The emotions were seriously deep, especially for Ozzie. He's always been the laidback, charming guy, so to see him NOT that way was so painful. That made him finding his HEA even that much sweeter. Who knew all the pain that charming smile hid? I loved the book and have fallen in love with this series all over again. Bring on the next book....then the one after that is Christian's. Yes...can you say sexy British accent? I love him...and all his snark.
Also prominent in this book is Samantha Tate, the reporter, who has dogged the Black Knights for years trying to get the real scoop on them for a story. She winds up getting kidnapped--twice! and Ozzie has to rescue her--bad leg, wrecked bike, and all.
We learn a great deal about Ozzie's life in this book--his mother and father, his step-mothers, his approach to women and why he asks every woman he meets to marry him. There are some very poignant times in this book. I was sniffling several times and wanting to scream "Right on!" at others.
I've loved every single one of the Black Knights but I have a few favorites--Carlos, Rock Babineaux, and my top favorite: Ozzie. Now that I have Ozzie's story, I thought I would be content, but, no, I want more. I know one more is coming (Dagan's story) but I'm angling for at least two more after that!
Samantha Tate is a bulldog when it comes to finding stories. She's been a thorn in BKI's backside from the start, trying to discover a way to expose whatever the group is hiding. She smells a Pulitzer Prize story, she just needs to get someone to actually answer her questions. She has a good friendship with Ozzie and wishes they were a little more than friends, but he's a womanizer and horrid flirt. In previous stories, Sam has been the annoying reporter, constantly peppering the team with nosy questions. In Wild Ride, we get to see the real Samantha-her vulnerability with relationships, her sassiness, that fiery temper, and her quick intelligence that draws Ozzie's attention to her and makes her more than a job for him.
Ozzie (aka Ethan Sykes) has been my favorite character since the start of the series because he's a geek! His laid back attitude hides keen intelligence and his hacker extraordinaire abilities. He also loves to spout pop culture references, digs big hair '80's bands, and all things Star Trek. His infectious personality is hard to overlook-he's the go-to guy for laughs and witty quips. Getting to the core of him was fascinating because I never saw the secrets he had coming!
Ozzie and Samantha getting together was one of the best match-ups in the series (since Ghost and Allie because yes, they were my favorite couple until now!) I loved their friendship and their chemistry. Six years in the making, I was happy they finally had a chance to explore their relationship. Minimal angst because of lack of communication between the two gave the usual relationship hiccups, but overall, Ozzie was as honest as he could possibly be considering the secrets he was keeping from her.
Book nine in the Black Knights Inc. series, Wild Ride was just that- a wild ride! Samantha having to hide from the local MC gang after they kill her witness, Ozzie providing bodyguard duty, steamy chemistry, and the double speak the team dishes to hide their true purpose from Samantha had me captivated until the end! Getting the deets on Christian (Ozzie's team member) and Emily (former CIA and new receptionist at BKI) were a bonus, and I am looking forward to seeing those sparks fly in their book! If you haven't read the series, I feel Walker did a fair job explaining Ozzie and Samantha's background comfortably enough to read Wild Ride as a stand alone, however, the teasers about everyone else should be enough to tempt you to check out the rest of the series!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received at no cost from Sourcebooks Casablanca for Bambi_Unbridled.

The characters are seriously HOT, alpha guys, full of testosterone, Ozzie though comes with a real softness that's adorable, along with a dash of flash, a pinch of ego and a deep loyalty to his friends, brothers in arms and the family that comes with BKI. Samantha turns his world upside down in more ways than one, and she falls for him hard......Will they make it, will the lies be too much, will the reporter in her spill all the beans? Got to read it. Cannot wait for the soon to follow next edition, or Christians story......
