"The Wild Side" by R.K. Lilley, takes you into the repetitive and mediocre world of Alasdair, "Dair" for short. He's a newly 40 year old man who is a renowned writer and just going through a bitter and nasty divorce that's made him a bit of cynic. His world is thrown for a loop when the sexy and vivacious, Iris, takes a spot on the treadmill next to him and makes him stop dead in his tracks. There is no way in the world this young thing could want his old behind?? He soon finds out he is wrong. This young thing wants Dair and isn't afraid to be forward about it either. Don't let his 40 year old status fool you. He fine with a capital "F" and deserve the fun and attention that Iris gives him, but he can only wonder is there an ulterior motive when it comes to the mysterious and unpredictable Iris?
I thought this book was a blast to read. Iris and Dair was such a mismatch, but they made it work. The age difference was nothing but a number and honestly didn't bother me in the least. They were sexually attracted to each other and was having fun, what harm were they doing to each other? They were grown and sexy. Glad they got it on! Iris- girl, I love you. She owns her sex appeal and runs with it. Modesty doesn't fit her at all. She goes butt ass naked in front of an ex- wife and won't blink a damn eye lash. See that's the kind of gal that knows she a bad ass and you would go through fire to have on your side. Loved her. Dair- my sexy, shy, passionate and possessive alpha. I just want to hug and rumble in the bed with you so bad that it just aches. He was so oblivious, I felt, to the fact that there wasn't an ulterior motive with Iris. She liked him alot...what was so hard to believe? Dair is sexy, in great shape and can turn her out and make her past out like any young bumpkin. What I loved most about Dair was that he was so sensitive and wore his heart on his sleeve. Don't find many alphas that can do that and still be consider sexy and manly. Sometimes when they come across like that in books they are just consider pussies and a waste of space. RK's men are anything but. See this is what I'm saying..this woman just amazes me with her characters and how well thoughtout and developed they are. God, I want to be her when I grow up finally!
I gotta say I am looking forward to the next installments of "The Wild Side" series, ("Iris" & "Dair"). We have questions that need to be answered like, last year and more sexy time between these two. Prepare for a cliffhanger, not too bad. I will be honest, I was looking forward to this being a standalone! I love when authors give me everything in one book and wrap it up with their author bow of Happily Ever After and then I can move on with my life. But you can't always get what you want and you know what it's fine! Like I said, RK writing leaves you wanting and coming back for more. She has a fan in me forever.
Out of a 5, giving this one a 4.5. Great job Mrs. Lilley. Now, give me more Iris and Dair!!
The Wild Side is about Alasdair Masters a newly divorced 40 year old man who is working out at the gym and on the one day he is on the treadmill, Iris walks up to him.
24 year old Iris who just pops up in his life and is everything that he desires.
The weird thing is that Iris doesn't really give any information about herself, doesn't have a car or a cellphone and is a cigarette girl. Of course Dair, being intoxicated by her ignores all of these until she ups and disappears...
The only thing that I felt was too much was the sex. There was sex happening all over the place so the plot or the mystery behind Iris wasn't the forefront but I think that is the point since we are in Dair's POV, we are concerned with that he is concerned with.
I just want to know more about Iris and what she is hiding.
Forty-year-old Alasdair Masters is a wealthy, successful author, but he mostly keeps to himself and out of the social spotlight. Even before their recent divorce, the relationship with his ex-wife had been loveless and hollow. Enter young blonde bombshell, Iris. Alasdair is immediately attracted to this bold and brazen woman, but also immediately warns himself against her age. When she isn't deterred at all, Alasdair soon finds that he can't refuse what she's offering.
--"...what is that getup you're wearing supposed to do?"
--"Make you lose every ounce of good sense you ever had, and take a walk on the wild side. Is it working?"
He wasn't exactly looking for something new and exciting, but instead, it came looking for him. Iris became his spark, and as control started to slip through his fingers, all he could do was stoke the flame. The thrill and satisfaction that she provided consumed him quickly.
--It was one of those things I couldn't believe I'd done after the fact, and the doing of it had felt like a blur of absolute, mindless pleasure.
She brought out a rough and passionate side of him. She was eager and unabashedly responsive to his touch. As their relationship gained momentum, it was fascinating to see the effect and power that youthful Iris had over him.
--I pushed down on her hips, arching her back, so that every pull in or out was grinding against the rawest part of her. I would not, could not stop until I'd gotten what I needed from her.
Beyond her sensuality, I was intrigued by her personality. She was so confident and was never easily intimidated, but she divulged very little detail about herself. My imagination couldn't help but wonder...Who is she? Where the heck did she come from? What intentions could she be hiding?
Their more laid-back interactions--the amiable moments laced in between all of the pleasure and desire--even those had my attention.
--"Yes. Sometimes they're so brown, and sometimes I think they're more hazel, but they're always, always, so warm. They're by far your most dangerous weapon, Dair."
I liked how candid Dair's POV was through it all...the way he'd react whenever he was with her, his thoughts when she was away, and the realizations that he even made about himself. However, even as I was reading through all of his emotions and the changes that he felt, society's influence kept that "gold digger" paranoia in the back of my head. I couldn't just forget the huge age gap, his fortune, or the sudden development of their affair in the first place. These were details that kept poking at me. What's really going on here?
--"Because there's only one reason people our ages get together."
--"And what reason is that?" Her voice was so quiet I nearly didn't catch her words.
--I shut my eyes. "To use each other."
By the book's end, after a drastic turn of events, I was left with about 20 more questions and a craving for the next book! I'm definitely looking forward to more Dair and Iris! The Wild Side was a great introduction to these characters and an alluring tease to where this story could be headed!
--I wanted my emotional numbness back. Badly.
--Instead, in its place, I felt. I missed. I craved. I yearned.

In waltz's Iris, an extremely beautiful, young lady who always works out when Dair is at the Gym.
He feels she is far too young for him, and although he is trying not to be interested, unfortunately the pull is far too strong!
They embark on a sexual relationship, to end all sexual relationships. They get very cosy and comfortable very quickly, he still berates himself about their age difference! Their relationship is only over a very short period of time, but is very explosive and sweet; there is something about Iris that Alisdair can't quite understand, she lies to him but he doesn't confront the issue, I think he is really worried about loosing her!
His ex is at his house when they return home one day, Iris susses her out immediately, she want to get back with her ex-husband. But I loved how sassy, all knowing and undeterred she is, parading around naked in front of the ex! This made me chuckle!
Iris and Dair continue with their relationship, both immensely enjoying each others companys!
Unfortunately, Alisdair has a pre-scheduled meeting, with an old friend and suddenly he questions himself about his and Iris's age gap.
All hell breaks out, and Iris walks out of his life, leaving him with the biggest regret of his life! and that's where it ended!
Bummer a cliffhanger!
