From School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up—In Night Sky (Sourcebooks, 2014), 17-year-old Skylar unwittingly discovers that she is a "Greater-Than" when a young girl she babysits is kidnapped. Greater-Thans are humans with a variety of superpowers who are being hunted for a hormone they carry because it can be used to manufacture a dangerous new drug called Destiny. As Wild Sky begins, Dana is continuing to help Skylar learn how to handle her new powers when the group is approached by Garrett, a fellow classmate, who wants their help locating Jilly, another young girl who has gone missing. In the process of finding her, Calvin, Skylar's best friend who is in a wheelchair, gets infected with Destiny. Can Skylar and her friends discover a way to save Calvin's life? Brockmann and her daughter continue with their YA prequel series to Brockmann's adult novel, Born to Darkness (Ballantine, 2012).

Love this new series. Melanie sure has followed in her Mom's footsteps (IN A GOOD WAY) and those were big expectations to live up to and she has done it in a way that no one will question her amazing talent!! Constant action, emotional roller coasters and love, what more can you ask for? Love it, cannot wait for the next one.

This Series about young adults with powers and learning not only how to deal with them on their own but also saving little girls and others that are hunted down and used to supply those who need them or just want to get younger. Problem is one dose and your addicted and that is provided you live through that first dose. This band of young adults have to count on each other and it is more important for Dana to find her sister, Lacey, who was kidnapped years ago now that they have a lead. They stick together, add another to their group, and find her but what will they find? Years of being tortured have taken a toll on her and life is not what they have been expecting.
Add to that they have another girl to rescue who doesn't want to be rescued and she puts Cal's life in serious danger.

Nail biting, edge of your seat action. There are some tears to be shed but it is one of the best reads in quite a while. Enjoy!

This is the second YA installment of the 'Night Sky' series, although there was actually a free prequel (Dangerous Destiny) that shows how Skylar and Calvin meet. The 'adult' book set in the same world is Born to Darkness and the institute in this book is referenced in the YA books occasionally.
I've enjoyed all the books set in this world, I recommend them and will definitely be reading more of this series. For those wondering, it is based on the sci-fi premise of 'what if?' and in this instance it's what if in the not so distant future, there are some people born different who discover they have various powers? And what if the difference is something in their blood which can be used to make a drug that makes normal people look younger? And what if taking this drug has extreme side-effects?
The story moves along nicely and I enjoy the snappy dialogue. Gareth turns out to be a little nicer that he was shown to be in previous books and a couple of new characters are introduced who will likely be popping up regularly in future books. I have to say, (*SPOILER ALERT*) that I got pretty worried about Cal and considered not reading the rest of the book but then I thought about Suzanne's other books and I figured he'd be fine and he was.

I've grown to really like the characters in the Sky series. I'm not a major YA fan but some people pull me in – Elena Dillon, Sarra Cannon and now Suzanne & Melanie Brockmann. The kids in the Sky series are fully formed characters and yes the angst is there but it doesn't overwhelm the story. The Greater-Thans, kids with powers above a normal human, are being kidnapped and used to create a drug that makes anyone young and beautiful—for a time, before it kills them violently and everyone else within range of them as they die. Sky and her crew are trying to find and save other GTs but they're a band of kids up against a well-funded conspiracy. It's a race and not an even one. I admit I love Calvin. He reminds me of Xander in the Buffy series-the normal one who holds them together though in this book he gets to play more on the main stage. Check out this series, you'll get hooked too.

Wow, those G-Ts figured out how to get things done, but now I want to know more about Lacey, Morgan, Jilly and Garrett. Please don't stop here! The characters are well written and quite likable, the plot and suspense keep you riveted, what's not to like?

3.5 stars

Wild Sky, the second installment of the Night Sky series, pulls us back into Sky, Calvin, Dana, and Milo’s world. While the gang is still focused on finding Dana’s sister, Lacy, there are a lot of obstacles in their way with the repercussions of being a Destiny addict is at the center of it all. With this book, I think the series is finally gaining some momentum. Night Sky was very character driven; in this one, there was more of a balance with the characters and the plot driving the story. I had a hard time getting into it at first. Sky and Milo’s connection seems to have increased significantly since the first book, and it was a bit jarring for me. Their romance was more of a backdrop in the previous book, but there were times when it took center stage here, and I’m not sure the story was ready for that. I would have liked there to be more of a build. Calvin’s trademark humor and wit were here, and Dana’s intensity and hard-assness were present as well.

Once you get past the beginning, the pacing of the story really picks up, and it’s steady the entire way through. The authors gave us quite a few surprises in this one (there was even a ‘drop your Kindle while your jaw hits the floor’ moment,) and some characters I didn’t expect to see again popped up. We were also introduced to a new character who I think is going to play a big part in the books to come, and I am most excited to see him again! He’s going to add a lot of depth to the story and be a fountain of knowledge for Sky and the others.

While Wild Sky took a bit to get into, it was ultimately worth the read.
